WOW, 11 years out of a Optima Red Top Battery

Wow that blew my mind, 11 years out of a battery. Anything over 5 years is on borrowed time. This was in my parents daily driver, 1999 Chrysler 300m. Best thing about it is the exterior condition of the battery and posts. Absolutely no traces of white acid to clean up any where. Removed the terminals and they were like new....

I always put all new batteries on a 2 amp charge till it is fully charged before putting in service.

I have a Makita drill that I purchased in 1999. Been through a few batteries (they tend to last, maybe three or four years with my light/ moderate usage), but one of the original batts is still kicking. It only recently started to fade. I think batteries are sort of like cars, in that even though they come out of same factory, built by the same people, with the same materials, yet some are excellent while others are dogs. Just luck of the draw.

I still have the red top Optima I put in my 2001 Suburban in 2003. Never had any issues. It fires right up everytime. And I only drive it 3 or 4 times a month. The newer ones aren't as good as the older ones. I believe Interstate makes them now. But I could be wrong. I've had the newer ones in other vehicles and had them die after a few years or have them replaced under warrenty. These days I don't think they're any better than a midrange DieHard.

I gotta say, I am thus far impressed with the factory battery in my 2011 1LT Camaro... 73,000 miles (a few thousand starts)... I spend about an hour every day with the doors open, and the radio on high volume, which surely works the battery pretty hard. Haven't had so much as a flicker or a hesitation out of the battery yet.

April 2000 till March of 2014. I probably killed it myself. Last use of it was an onboard battery for my race car trailer and I left the 12V inside lights on for 2 weeks. It wouldnt recover. Original use was for my rear engine dragster, it was the first battery for the car.

I run an optima battery in my world challenge race car per the world challenge rules. The battery didn't last longer than 2 months before failing and making me lose control because my car has electric power steering. One small failure caused me a lot of money.
