Cutting The Grounding Bolt - Installing RotoFab
Hello, guys. I am 0% mechanically inclined. For that reason, I'd like my RotoFab to be installed such that I can take the air filter off without disassembling the CAI. I've read that some people shorten the grounding bolt and that allows the filter to be changed without disassembly.
Does anyone have a video or step by step instructions for this strategy? Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't do that.....not worth it.
Filter will last a pretty long time to worry about removal.

How do you clean the filter? Don't you need to take it off?

Do the normal install. It's very easy just to unscrew the clamp holding the filter on. I can get mine off maneuvering around the ground bolt. You could always cut it down a little also with a dremel. http://youtu.be/y7Uugwya0_8 Last edited by CRTZL1; 07-07-2014 at 03:40 PM. |

I didn't have to cut my ground bolt.

Are you talking about the ground stud for jump starting the car? I removed that and left the ground bolt in place. Filter comes right out easy as could be! No cutting of anything.

Why not just get a Filter Wrap and then all you have to do is wipe it off with a microfiber cloth every now and then...
This is the right one if you bought the K&N CAI: K&N RF-1036DK

I used a pair of vice grips to remove the ground stud and relocated it.

The ground bolt that is in the way of the filter to remove it can be easily unscrewed with a 10mm wrench. No need to cut it.

Like Deke said, if it proves to be in the way, just unscrew it. Of course you most likely will not have to worry about cleaning the filter for 50,000 miles. Just a thought.
