HUD - focal point

I didn't know where to put this but I figured here would work since the car is a ZL1 and we all have a HUD.

I've never owned a car with a HUD before and I'm wondering if you should have to shift your focal point to ~10 yards in front of the car to get a clear view of the HUD. If I'm looking focusing 50 yards out the HUD is like a double image that isn't in focus. Is this normal?

Hmmm....never thought about that. The HUD is always just "there" and I don't even think about it. Had it since 2002 in one car or another.
You have adjusted its position?

I've adjusted it up and down. No change. If I close one eye it is in focus regardless of where my eyes are looking in front of the car.

Sounds to me like you need gaze stabilization exercises. You can google it or Cawthorne Cooksey exercises. No problems with my HUD.

Don't hate me but I turned my HUD off!

Probably just me but I rarely need it or use it. Strange thing is I love the Third Eye 3D puzzles?

So I drove around for an hour or so tonight and either the HUD is messed up or my vision is screwed. I have to focus on the HUD to not get a double image. It is my understanding the HUD should should 'hang' there and that isn't the case.

Have you had your windshield replaced, if it is not HUD compatible it will screw it up.

I just looked at the windshield and there is a code on the drivers side bottom. It is 'SSxxxxx' with the x's being numbers. Can somebody see if theirs has the same thing? I've read about people having similar issues with replacement windshields. I wonder if the dealer replaced the windshield with one that doesn't have the HUD coating? Unlikely but possible.

edit.

Sven59 beats me to it. The car is brand new and had 13 miles on it. It had been sitting in the showroom so long the battery was dead. I'm going to give them a call on Monday.

Ask someone else to drive it, preferably someone that has a ZL1, if they see double (without a few beers in them) then there is something wrong with the HUD and you need to go to the dealer. If they don't know what you are talking about then you probably have a vision issue.

Sorry to jump on a ZL1 thread here. I've found that keeping the HUD display lower is the best. My belief is to look at the road as far down as needed for safety.....the HUD's purpose is to reduce the need to look down at the gauges while driving.

My problem is I can't look out that far and not get a double image on the HUD no matter what position I have the image set to on the windshield. I have to shift my focus to the HUD image to see it correctly. The double image isn't like the example you see on a google search. They do not overlap at all. They look side by side but with no touching.

My father in law said he had no problems but he hasn't used one before so I'm not sure he knows how it should work. Regardless, I'm going to get my eyes checked next week.

You could have exophoria. It when your eyes don't line up perfectly straight. It's main symptom is double vision. Your eyes can't focus together. I have it, but my eyes are able to compensate.

I actually end up turning mine off a lot of the time as I find it to be a distraction. I've got an analog speedometer and digital speed readout between the gauges. I understand the point but it seems redundant.
