Stage 2 - upgrading tweeters

I've added a sub to my stock stereo. Things have improved a lot.

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=370906

There's still some harshness from time to time in the higher frequencies. I'm starting to be convinced the tweeters in the stock component setup aren't very good, and the cause of the issue.

These should be relatively easy to drop in a new pair. I did a search of the forums and see a variety of ideas, but no definitive "these sound best and fit perfect". It also appears no one has tried this recently so perhaps something new has come along...

For the record, unless absolutely necessary, I'd like to avoid pulling the inside door off to replace the entire components. The mids from the stock 6.5" is fine. I'm really just looking for a better set of tweeters. I'm willing to spend $50 on a decent pair if they exist at that price point.

You can replace the tweets by prying the triangle panel they're on straight up. 1-1/2" diameter is your limit before customization. I installed pioneer ts-t15 for about $36 shipped. They are a soft dome that gets rid of the annoying highs that metallic domes cause. See my journal for more info.

Cool, I looked at your write-up. From what you posted, cutting the holes was personal preference, but those could have mounted without the hole being drilled (?).

I'm going to need to get a hot glue gun or maybe use some epoxy I already have. Any cons I'm not aware of using epoxy? [other than permanence]

Also, I noticed a nice set of Infinity tweeters for $45 shipped on Amazon, came with mounting hardware, etc. But it was 2ohms. Will that really make a difference with a tweeter?

Got impatient and picked up a pair of JL Audio C2 tweeters for $100. Install just needed some hot glue. They sound awesome, crisp but not tiring. Tried a few tracks I had issues with before and don't hear any problems now.

These and the 10" sub have brought this system to life. They're awesome tweeters, crisp without ANY harshness. I wired in the crossovers that came with them, then ran a few frequency tests and sweeps and made sure there were not any frequency drops - everything tuned just fine! With the sub, the head unit I'm using Treble 0 , mid -5, bass -6. The sub's crossover is around 80-100hz. That depends on your ears and style of music. But those EQ numbers are about right to reduce the bass being sent to the factory speakers while still allowing the sound to be full. The sub just catches anything you want to have some extra punch like kick drums, floor toms, bass guitar, and low synths.

You know, the sub handles the missing bottom just fine, but, yeah, the highs need some work. Thanks for the post!

Anyone have opinions between the two referenced?
