Throttle Body Spacers

Hi All,

I have a 4 mm T/B spacer, I think it seems to help provide more air flow. I have been told by some people they do nothing, others swear by them. So my question for everyone is what is your opinions? Builders, tuners any input you may have would be awesome.

Thanks for any input

well Ive never seen a shop install one as part of a build.

If guys ask me if they should get one before a tune, I say its not worth it.

I ran an Airaid t/b spacer on my Truck as a proto type. It did make a difference in the mid range acceleration for sure. There was less of a delay or quicker response when stepping on it. Never verified but gas mileage seemed to improve a little also.

Airaid was kind enough to let me leave it in my truck after testing and as they went into production. Got a nice tour of their building and got to see how and where the T/B's and CAI's are made also.

If they would not have let me keep the proto in my truck I would have bought one.

they only work if after the fuel as in carb or tbi injection.

this debate will get ugly. There are some people who do like them and there are actually some dyno numbers showing they can gain power, but those usually come from the manufacturer. I have never seen an independant test on the Air Raid or Power Wedge for our cars.

On the other hand there are people that will tell you, that you might as well light your money on fire if you want to buy one

I hear more negatives, than positives(but don't know if these folks have tried them or what). Sure, the manufacturers say otherwise..how does it feel for you OP? Can you 'feel' the difference? How about the spacers w/ the sharp edging for more turbid airflow?

this debate is decades old, back to the throttle body air foil for the old TPI cars. I had one on my IROC-Z and the throttle respone felt better. I remember seeing all these flow bench data graphs of how the airfoil helped smoothe out the air and get more of it into the TB in an efficient matter, same concept as the TB spacer.

I have the Vararam wedge. Got it at Camarofest for $50.00. I think the throttle response is crisper.

When a throttle body spacer adds power, it is usually due to a gain in plenum volume, not a fancy swirly pattern in the spacer.

I do beleive my fuel economy has gotten a little better and I do notice a crisper throttle. You can definitely hear the car pulling more air, but that could be the combination of the spacer with the cai.

Tried that on my modified 2000 Z28,did absolutely ZERO . Had a 382 stroker LS1 420 rwhp in the Z28 and it did nothing what so ever for preformance .
