Engine temp and fan?

I was detailing my car and let the car idle to dry up some moisture on the exhaust and engine compartment. I never noticed this but the fan never kicked on. At what temperature does it start to turn on?

Also what temperature range do your cars run while just cruising around mine is like 192 driving normally. Gets over 205 when idling at at stop for awhile then when moving drops back to 192.

Just curious and a little bit paranoid.

I put in the 160 thermo

Cruising at 80 mph @ 175
Stop n go Traffic @ 188 on a 100 degree day
Running hard on back roads @196

That is going off the gauge display

The ls engines run cooler by design. The fan would have come on sooner if you had the Ac on.

Your temps are totally normal. If anything there lower then most. My car runs between 185-210 as a norm but I've seen it as high as 225 ....
I may try the 160 t-stat like that other guy though, seems like his car runs a lot cooler then mine in all his conditions he listed.
He listed he runs 196 when whaling on it, if I'm whaling on mine I'm definitely running 200-220

LS engines run warmer by design to help with emissions...
