Seat Height Recall

Have any of you gotten this notice in the mail yet for GM recall 14271?

It involves the bolt that attaches to the adjuster screw that controls the driver's side seat height.

The crazy thing is, mine JUST fell out last week. My seat is always at the lowest height possible, but when I got out of the car one day to go to work, the seat raised up like a foot or so, almost to the roof. I didn't realize the seat could even go that high, or that anyone that short existed on planet Earth.

After I got back home, I just replaced the bolt myself, but it sounds like they have a new part, likely a locking nut to keep the bolt from reversing. Anybody hear about this?

Same. I think I might see if they can give me the part and I replace it myself just so I don't have to worry about somebody not getting the memo that I don't want my fob broken.

The bolt does require a fairly large-sized star bit though, so most people might not have the ability to replace it. It shouldn't be too hard to find the bit in a hardware store if you wanted to do the work yourself. I'll see what they say.

I believe you can just sign a waver on the key. The seat issue is another item all together.

(And it was great seeing ya! Thanks for coming!)

It's an easy enough fix to put the original bolt back in, but I'm curious what the new bolts look like. The one in my seat is a torx head bolt (like this: http://myword.info/images/t_drive_1b.jpg), and to get to it, you must remove, or partially remove, a plastic shroud from the lower part of the seat to expose the rail on the driver's side. There was one screw on the back side of it, if I remember correctly, with the head of the screw facing the rear seats. The rest just popped off. Be careful though, as there are metal clips that snap into the seat assembly and if you pull too hard on the shroud, you could pull the clip out from its slot in the plastic. This did not happen to me, but I am familiar with this type of clip as the Camaro uses lots of them.

I didn't take off the plastic part all the way as the front of it is held on by the power switches and I didn't feel like tearing everything apart, but I got it to the point that I could move the plastic shroud out of the way enough to get a screwdriver in there to replace the bolt. The height adjuster is a long powered screw with a hole at the end of the piston rod. I had to adjust the height a little bit to get it to align with the hole on the seat frame, but once I found where it's supposed to reattach, it was a simple enough fix.

I'm not sure why mine would have come out as I never adjust the height and it's always at the lowest possible height setting. I guess that's why it's called a defective part.

If it happens to you, the seat will raise up every time you get out of the car since there are springs or something that pull the seat upward, and the height adjuster screw isn't there to hold it down anymore.

I haven't gotten the notice yet. I wonder if they will also do the key thing if I take my car in for this too?

I got this for my 2011 Equinox, but not my 2013 Camaro. I suspect it's just something to do with certain years.
