New Member and ZL1 Owner in desperate need of upgrades help

How is it going y'all??

As it says in the topic,, new member and new ZL1 owner however, a huge and old fan of this forum for over 2 years.

I bought a new ZL1 about 7 months ago and been stock since then except recently I installed a borla attack catback + a tune. Car made 431 stock and after the Catback and tune it made 475 rwhp (All on a Mustang Dyno). I am looking to do more than that right now since the car has 10200 miles on it. I have already ordered Kooks 1-7/8 LT headers and catless mids along with a Roto-fab intake from Maryland Speed but still haven't installed it yet.

I want to upgrade the supercharger pulley first but I have no idea where to start from since I have never dealt with forced induction motors. In the past I used to work on LSxx N/A motors but that's it. Currently own a LS3 GTO and loving every part of it.

What I am looking at right now is the 2.35 Lingenfilter pulley package with the belt and injectors. I was told I will need the injectors but I also heard and read different opinions. Trust me before posting this thread I read a lot!!! but no solid answer unfortunately.

so here are my questions...

1. What will I need in terms of parts to upgrade to a 2.35 pulley? (UD pulley is gonna remain stock).

2. How many pounds will I be running with this setup (approximately) and what should I be expecting on the dyno for rw hp and tq? ( I will be tuning it on a Dynojet not mustang)

3. Belt slip,, I have heard a lot about that!!! what's your opinion on this? I will have the new belt btw from LF when I order my pulley kit but does it still slip even with the new belt designed for the 2.35?

4. Will I need new injectors or is it all talk? cause some said I will some said otherwise...

5. Fuel pump...upgrade or no?

6. Anything else I forgot please mention it...

That's all what I have in mind,,, Thanks in advance to you all

Welcome Aboard, this is a great site with a lot of great enthusiasts.

Your better off going with a Crank pulley, proper belt, and injectors and leaving the upper pulley alone, Less belt slip.

You can go up to 10% crank pulley with stock injectors.

I recommend 18% crank pulley and ID-850 injectors to work well with your current and upcoming mods.

I can provide you with everything you need including Tuning and advice on what the best path is for you.

Ted.

2.35 pully requires snouth removal, machining, larger injectors, and cooling upgrades for sure. You may need a boost a pump as well. I think you would see 14psi or so with that pulley headers.

so if you going to run that pulley make sure you have the budget to buy the supporting mods.

I have the lower setup as it has more pulley sizes and installes in ~2hours very simply. I basically have the mods you have with the 10% lower and stock injectors

what you really want to decide is do you want high boost and manage you temps or more minimal boost and say cam or something like that.

that pulley will make a ton of power but at somepoint you IAT's will get too hot and the car is just going to reduce power without mods to keep that in check.

I would like a tad more than my car has now so I am saving for inectors but trying to decide to add more boost or swap the cam ans still stay in the 11psi range and maybe not need cooling mods. I feel if I go up in boost a heat exchange will be needed.

one more thing I forgot to add is if you do pull the snout and run the upper pulley I would port it wile it is off.

I am not worried about the heat part as it always cold here in WV. I just hope I don't see snow soon. besides I always put an hour minimum between passes for my N/A car so it can cool down properly. I will by the injectors but as for the fuel pump this is the part that is getting me really worried, I don't want it to fail on me while getting on the car

UD?

I am talking about the Harmonic damper that accepts interchangeable supercharger drive pulleys.

The AC and Accessory drives remain the same.

ATI super damper with LPE 18% crank pulley is your best option.

Hope this helps.

This is what I run on my daily driver with 38,000 miles: Roto Fab cai, Pfadt LT headers with no cats, cooler logic HX with a D3 reservoir, 2.55 upper with 18% lower, FSP cam, ID850 injectors with a boost a pump. My car is an auto and is putting out over 650 whp on a mustang dyno, and runs mid to upper 10s in the Florida heat.

I cant drive it enough! Went on a 3300 mile road trip to Toronto and back a little while ago including a run down the tail of the dragon on the way home. FSP builds them right!

Hey CROCO. Welcome to the board. What color is your ZL1? I haven't seen you around town. I thought I was the only one.

I have heard that if you run that small of an upper pulley, you need to switch to a 10 rib belt (no first hand knowledge). It is the hardest of the 2 pulleys to upgrade because you have to remove the snout to do it and if its off you might as well get it ported and polished for some extra kick. If you go over 10% on the pulley swap, you WILL run the stock injectors out past 100%. My tuner said that after 90% the injectors really aren't doing more. There was an argument between the guy who was ordering the parts and the tuner about running the injectors to 115%, I decided to listen to the tuner since he has had experience tuning the cars for over 10 years (Vettes, CTS-V's etc...). You will lose about 2 lbs. of boost when you add the headers, but the car will be able to breathe better...Not sure what the 2.35 will add in boost (4 lbs. or so? so 2 lbs. over stock maybe). I am running the Metco 9.55 pulley that has the interchangeable rings and it claims +4.5 lbs. of boost, but because of the Headers and the Cam I'm only about 1.5 lbs. over stock (so 10.5 lbs. right now). Since your doing the upper pulley, I'm guessing that you have already had the Super Charger replaced via the TSB that is out on them? If not, DO NOT DO THE UPPER PULLEY! You will be fine with the stock fuel pump..I am having no issues at all with fuel with my current setup. I am at about 50-55% duty cycle on the ID 850 injectors. They are also E85 compatible if you decided to go that route later. Good luck!

Don't know if anyone is still wondering. I just did the 2.35 on my car with the 850 injectors, CAI and a tune. I also added a big a$$ heat exchanger and extra reservoir.

Right now I run about 16 Lbs of boost and did 586 to the wheels. She wines so loud! I love it. I have ordered the ARH long tube without the cats and some QTP Cutouts to go right behind those. Hopefully the LT will help bring that boost down as i don't like it sitting that high and also hopefully get past the 600 mark!
