P0008 CEL gone?
So i was driving my 2010 2LT M6 today and i noticed that i had a CEL on. I did not notice any difference in the way the car was driving so i just continued on my way and figured i would check it when i got home seeing as i have a BT ODBII Connector and the Torque App.
When i got home i had the Code P0008. Upon doing some research i found out that this is a dreaded CEL light that seems to indicate that the timing chain has stretched and that i need to bring it in to the shop. So i decided since i didn't notice anything that i would clear the code and drive it again to see if it reappeared. After driving around pretty much all day it has not returned. So my question is, should i be worried? Maybe it threw the light because i just hit my 5k mark from my previous oil change and i need to do my oil soon? Some info on the car; 2010 2LT V6 M6 Just under 36,000 miles Daily Driver here in Alaska (Maybe the cold has something to do with it?) CEL/MIL will never come on to remind you to do an oil change.
It could be something to do with timing, camshaft sensors, crankshaft sensors. If the performance is the same and the light has not come back on I would suspect an intermittent camshaft sensor problem, and they are cheaper to replace than the timing chain, which would probably require new tensioners if it's coming out of place. (May not even need the chain if it's the problem, but it'd be best to replace it while you're there anyway) Out of warranty I assume? |

Thanks for the response!
I actually am still in my warranty until the end of this month. Will they still fix my timing chain or sensor even if im not getting the CEL anymore? |

From my experience, the light may stay off for a few days, but it will return if the chain is bad. The oil change won't make a difference if the chain is indeed stretched.

Probably an anomaly however if you get the code again don't clear it....take it in and get the chain replaced for free under warranty. Also, when it happened to me the car went into a reduced performance mode that limited the engine output....if this happens you will definitely notice.....

Only a matter of time, the code will come back.
