1LE Squat and Dive between stop lights
Damn I like driving my bitchin 1LE camaro around town. I free rev the LS3 to make the next green light and break hard slowing way down to make the yellow turn lights. After about 10,000 miles of this, I noticed a lot more squat / dive. I don't want to lower the ride height but I'm wondering what type of suspension upgrades I need to make the car calm down and drive without the front going up and down all the time.
Should I get higher rate springs or different shocks? Last edited by SS MoFo; 10-21-2014 at 12:42 PM. |

Verified the The Front Struts really are 1LE part numbers.. they aren't making any noise yet. Then thinking I could just max out the rebound dampening for now, I checked for adjustable rebound but didn't find an adjuster at the top of the strut assembly. Can the rebound dampening be adjusted on the 1LE struts?
Possibly 10K miles is all you get before the factory strut / shock dampening fades. |

I've always found that typically, OEM struts installed at the factory on many other types of vehicles as well, simply do not last as long as O.E equivalent and/or aftermarket solutions.
I'm always hoping that one day, this streak will end, alas I see this thread here :(. |

My Bilstein PSs10s with over 20000 miles don't squat of dive at all even at setting number 5 of 10. Over 5 is too stiff and has no dive even from 110 mph braking on road courses. It has to do with the quality of suspension.

As long as you are under warrantee ,let them fix it if that's what it is . Then someday is you still own it and it fails again , upgrade it .

If it is bad ,they will fix it ,but you need to give them a shot at it . Or you could give them both a squirt of oil to make them look like they are leaking . And they always replace leaking shocks if you point it out to them. I would not suggest this if they were good ,but if they are truly bad this will end any doubt they have .

The rears are not adjustable either, but they are monotubes (as opposed to twin tube dampers on the SS). If your front end is bouncing, it is possible your struts have started leaking and lost their gas charge. If you lift up the dust boot and see oil around the top of the strut tube, there is a good chance they are leaking. If you get them off the car and push down on them and they don't spring back, they have lost their gas charge. As far as durability goes, the 1LE struts should be good for just as long as the standard dampers. They come off the same assembly line and are built using the same components. However, as I said above, they do have a lot more damping in them. That means they get hot faster. Kinetic energy absorbed by the damper is turned into heat . More damping = more energy absorbed. Your location says Texas. Heat is a damper's #1 enemy. Get your dampers hot enough to char the seals and they will leak. It's easier to cook a damper in Texas than it is up here in the north.
