Whats the difference between stabilitrack competitive mode and having everything off

Whats the exact differences between stabilitrack competitive mode and having the traction control and stablilitrack turned completely off?

I ask because at the drag strip I had wheel spin in both settings but the car ran faster had a little less wheel spin and was less tail happy on competitive mode. Cold slick track btw.

I believe competitive mode uses the computer to manage launch and shifting while you're running down the track.

Comp Mode: allows for launch control, and powershifting without pegging your rev limiter

Everything off? Zero computer intervention or assistance. The car is likely going to do exactly what you tell it to, for better or worse...

Competitive mode just relaxes the nannies a little. You can get the back end out, but it will still save you. With it off, you are on your own.

L99/A6 do not have launch control.

Traction control off lets the tires spin more freely. Competitive Mode has the nannies in a lesser state. A step away from them being complete off but will still kick in if needed. You will see this more on a road course/AutoX. Both lights on everything is off and now you are in full control from recovering your mistakes or crashing- almost life or death if you are inexperience.

StabilityTrac controls the car going into a drift/sideways.
Traction Control montiors wheel slip.

For drag racing turn off traction control or everything off depending on your skill level. Easy on the gas cuz the car will react different then what you are used to.

....
Also from my experience having the car in S mode is what you want to be in. S mode will give you quicker shifts and better throttle.

If you are going to get your car tune have them change M mode so it will not bounce off the rev limiter but shift to the next gear. The benefit of that is you can start in 1st gear.

I have a 2014 SS and when I press the traction control button 2 times it goes into Stabilitrac Competitive Mode. And when I hold the traction control button down for 7-8 seconds, the same Stabilitrac Competitive Mode message is displayed. To me, they both act the same. Launch control if I care to use it or unlimited tire spin if I just side step the clutch.

OP does not have launch control. Manual transmission only.
There is a difference between Competition Mode and everything off if you push the car on a road course or even AutoX

With everything on your sports car becomes a prius. Makes you wonder where all your money you spent for performance went.

Whats the difference between stabilitrack competitive mode and having everyth...

From my 2013 manual:

Multiple Systems and Modes:
  • Traction Control System (TCS) - keeps car from spinning out. Can be disabled with a single tap of the TCS/StabilTrak button or a long hold.
  • StabilTrak System - tries to keep car moving in the intended direction. Only way to disable is a long-hold of the TCS/StabilTrak button. Do this at your own risk and/or peril.
  • Performance Track Management (PTM) - enhanced performance with some computer guidance on the track. Requires Competitive Mode to be enabled; see notes below.
  • Launch Control - keeps car from spinning out when taking off in a straight line ideally to improve and have consistent quarter mile times. Requires Competitive Mode to be enabled; see notes below.
  • Competitive Driving Mode - more control over the car for track days with some computer assistance. Two short taps of the TCS/StabilTrak button.

Traction Control System (TCS)
When Turned ON:
  • Limits wheel spin.
  • Uses engine and brakes to control spin during acceleration. All driving speeds. Maximum driver control.
  • Signals throttle to reduce drive wheel torque.
  • Applies brakes during acceleration in certain conditions (e.g.: pavement to ice).
  • Turn off when stuck in sand, mud, snow, deep snow, loose gravel to assist a lower speeds.

To turn OFF:
  • Press and Release TCS/StabilTrak button.

StabilTrak System
From the manual ...
Quote:
"StabiliTrak activates when the computer senses a discrepancy between the intended path and the direction the vehicle is actually traveling. StabiliTrak selectively applies braking pressure at any one of the vehicle's brakes to help steer the vehicle in the direction which you are steering.

StabiliTrak comes on automatically whenever the vehicle is started. The system should be left on to help assist with directional control of the vehicle. If StabiliTrak needs to be turned off, press and hold the TCS/ StabiliTrak button until the Traction Control Off light and the StabiliTrak Off light come on in the instrument cluster. TCS will also be turned off."
When Turned ON:
  • Electronic stability control.
  • Assists with directional control of vehicle.
  • Activated when computer senses a discrepancy between intended direction and vehicle's actual direction.
  • Applies pressure at any one of brakes to help vehicle steer to the intended direction.

To turn OFF:
  • Press and hold the TCS/StabilTrak button until the Traction Control Off and StabilTrack Off lights come on. Do this at your own risk and/or peril.

Competitive Driving Mode
From the manual ...
Quote:
Competitive Driving Mode, Performance Traction Management (PTM), and Launch Control are systems designed to allow increased performance while accelerating and/or cornering. This is accomplished by regulating and optimizing the engine, brakes, and suspension performance. These modes are for use at a closed course race track and are not intended for use on public roads. They will not compensate for a driver’s inexperience or lack of familiarity with the race track. Drivers who prefer to allow the system to have more control of the engine, brake, and suspension are advised to turn the normal TCS and StabiliTrak systems on.
  • Performance Track Management (PTM) enabled.
  • Allows increased performance while accelerating and/or cornering.
  • Regulates and optimizes the engine, brakes and suspension performance.
  • Launch Control enabled.
  • Press TCS/StabilTrak button two times quickly.

Launch Control
  • Available with Competitive Driving Mode
  • Achieve high levels of vehicle acceleration in a straight line.
  • Form of Traction Control that manages wheel spin when launching.
Engage as follows:
  • Select Competitive Driving Mode
  • Vehicle is stopped.
  • Steering wheel is pointed straight.
  • Clutch is engaged.
  • Car is in 1st gear.
  • Accelerator pedal is rapidly applied to wide open throttle.

This may help. This summarizes the options for an SS in 2013. Again, always refer to your manual.

On the 2014's, competitive mode also tightens up the steering a bit. I much prefer the steering feel in that mode than with the nannies full on.
