Why does the AC always come on?
It seems like no matter what the outside temp is, when I turn the fan on, the AC also comes on. The last couple mornings it's been near 40. I turn the temp knob all the way to hot, turn on the fan, and the AC also comes on. I don't think it has anything to do with the last setting either. The afternoon before, I ran the fan with AC off. Anyone else notice this? What's the reasoning? I see no need for the compressor to run unless I want defrost.

Mine does not do this, but there is always a small output from the fan, even with it completely off.

Mine does not do that either. In fact when set to the coldest setting without AC it feels like the heat is on due to the engine temp.

the HVAC in the Camaro is not the best. Even with the system totally off air flows through at a decent rate. I have not had a car that "weak" when the system is off.

I don't experience any air flow when the system is off and recirculate is on. Honestly the system is no different than the last few cars I've driven. I don't get why the A/C comes on automatically but like I said the last few cars I've had were that way. Just turn it off...

Yes when you turn the fan off you still need to push the recirculate button. Then there will be no air. When I turn mine back on I have to turn the AC back on also.

By any chance is the location selector dial on defrost or and combo of defrost/vent, defrost/feet ?
Anytime the defrost location (or any location that includes it) is selected the AC compressor with run no matter what temp you have selected. This is for colder climates that may go months without using the AC, it keeps the compressor lubricated.

Let's be honest, the HVAC and the stock BA stereo in the 5th gen suck ass. I seriously hope GM addresses this along with the entire interior in the 6th gen. Sorry for the side track. Back to regular scheduled programming.

I ran my ac all winter in my Mazda 3 for that reason, designed to help with the humidity in winter. No window fog at all. I'll run it in the winter when it's really cold in the camaro, but don't find the windows fog up too bad. In laws have a charger and it's horrible in the winter for window fog.
