Striping order question

So… I’ve got a couple questions for you folks. I want a RJT SS2/RS with black rally stripes. I plan on having them painted.

Here are my questions:

Should I order the car with the vinyl stripes and just tell the dealer not to install them and then get them painted? Or should I just say the hell with it and buy it plain and then get the stripes painted on?

I guess what this really comes down to is is it really worth spending an extra $470 to have the car “match” the papers. I know myself and I will never sell this car so having it falsely match the papers (paint vs vinyls) won’t be an issue. How will people react in 25 years when it’s sitting at a car show with painted stripes vs vinyls?

So… is $470 worth it? I guess I could probably try to ebay them for $150 or so, or maybe I could just keep them at home with the original papers.

Thoughts?

I'm thinking the same thing, sort of. I ordered my car with the stripes, but I don't want the dealer to put them on, I am thinking about getting them painted on, or getting the longer "bumblebee" style vinyl glossy black stripes.

I plan on getting them painted the same way they would be if they where vinyl. I've still got some deciding to do.

Honestly, I would go without the stripes. I saw a 2SS RJT the other day and the car looks so awesome, clean and luxurious you do not need any stripes in my opinion.

Had mine custom paint and it is far better than factor stripes. Here is a link to pics of my 2SS.

Third option:

Order without stripes, then order aftermarket metallic gloss black stripes.

If you're going to get stripes painted anyway, why would you spend the extra money to order with stripes?

So the car "matches" the papers.

Well now that all rally stripes are put on by the factory and not the dealer I guess my decision is kind of made up for me, unless I wanted to order them on and have them peeled off to later get painted on .

Ohh well, thanks for the input .

Ive been playing with classic Chevy's my whole life. IMO it is worth it to have the papers with the stripes added. Ive got a 66 SS chevelle, and we kill for papers that designate those type of features.

Even if they aren't the true style of stripes that came on it?

Ya, the styles always vary (unless a standard is made by the factory doing them all). For our case as long as your papers say the ride came with stripes, then go crazy and get whichever ones you like. 30 years from now when your son is doing a frame off rebuild he will now which style are the most sought after, and can put them on without depreciating the value of the car...IMO. Like I said before, just having papers that say the car was built black with stripes throws it into a whole different level. For a 66 Chevelle your talking several thousand dollars. Plus they are much cooler!
