San Antonio - First Citation

So, I got my first citation last night for speeding.

Normally I wouldn't be too upset about this, considering it IS a sports car and all, but the location and time of the infraction was rediculously stupid.

Blanco Road, as a few people here may know, is under construction to be widened out to two lanes each direction due to traffic congestion during rush hour. The speed limit on the road is 45 or 50 pretty much the entire length. However, apparently, there's one little section that it drops down to 35.

I was not aware of this, and this particular SAPD officer was using this particular stretch to his FULL advantage at 11:30 in the evening on a Friday.

I'm not denying that I was going 50, but really? I could totally understand if I was going 45 or 50 through a neighborhood. But 50 in a 35 through a quarter-mile stretch of road construction when there's no construction going on at 11:30 at night and no traffic? Especially when that particular stretch has always been a 45 or 50mph zone prior to the construction starting? Ugh.

Deferred adjudication, here I come.

Anyone else in the SA area already picked up a ticket? Tell us your story.

P.S. - I don't want this to be a "Cops suck" thread. So please be respectful. I know he was just doing his job. I'm more pissed that the speed limit in that section was set so low, not that the officer used it to his advantage.

I know what you mean man. The town I live in is just a giant speed trap for local police. The highway's here are under construction too, and they just love to sit in their blacked out Chargers at night and bust people.

I don't think you'll have to worry about that unless you also have GFX

No kiddin! I wanted my first ticket to be one of those, "Dad, can you come get me out of jail," kind of tickets.

Oh well, maybe after deferred adjudication is completed

A citation in a Camaro is a badge of honor! No serious, slow down, you might hit a barrier and scratch your car!!

Unless the barrier is in the middle of the road, I think I'm good

That blows. I am going to try and never speed in my car. It is just too noticable even when traveling speed of traffic is scary. Ususally travel up 1604 towards 281 from where I live on 151. The speed limit is 65 at night but 80% of traffic is flowing at close to 80. I usually stick to about 72 on cruise but it is not fast enough for left laners. I don't want to be the idiot in the left lane with a new Camaro getting taken over by a soccer mom in a x5. So I try to trap myself in between two cars that are flowing the same speed so it either looks as if I'm following the person infront of me or being pushed by the person behind me. It will be a while before the hype wears on this car and until break in I will not be taken at sporting speeds anyway.

Yeah, at night on 1604 I usually just set the cruise control on 72, and if some idiot wants to go faster, he can wait until the right-lane clears so I can get over.

And 281 is no place to do any speeding, especially north of 1604. That traffic nightmare is always a pain in the rear no matter what time it is. Maybe once the toll road gets built

But trust me, not speeding in these cars is a tough task for anyone, even SAPD officers <cough> Doug <cough>

Justin, Justin, Justin. You know I'm with Doug on this one! Pretty amazing you haven't been pulled over in Bulverde yet. They were trying to catch up with a grey one the other day that exited 281 and went east bound on 46. I just KNEW it was you they were after and that they were a little off on the color. Turned out to be an SAPD officer (one we don't know...<cough> Doug <cough>). The visual speed and the actual speed are very deceiving. I can be driving along on the highway and thinking I am going about 65-70 and I am actually going 82 MPH! I had to slow down quickly, because we all know, Cops don't speed...much! Right, Doug?

I don't travel on 46 in the Camaro. The drivers on that road scare me...
