Critique My Forged TT Build Please!
Hello everybody! I am about to go through with purchasing the following parts for a build that I have planned, but before I do so, I would like to get the opinion of others and see what you guys have to say or if you would do anything differently. I am planning on going with a forged 416 stroker setup with a Callies 4.0 Dragonslayer Crank, Callies Ultra H-Beam Connecting Rods 6.125", Diamond 4.070 Dish Pistons -22.5cc, and a set of coated clevite main and rod bearings. I am ordering all these parts from TSP and am also having them spec me a custom turbo cam to go along with this setup. As for FI, I am going with the AGP TT Kit with the 54/57mm Journal Bearing Turbos with the .82 a/r. I will obviously be beefing up the fuel delivery system and drivetrain, but does this sound like a solid setup to you guys? My goal is a streetable 1000rwhp car with a useable power curve and I am hoping to eliminate as much turbo lag as possible by going with the 416 stroker motor. Please let me know if there is anything that you guys would recommend doing differently or anything that I could improve on to meet my goals. Any help/advice is much appreciated, thanks!

Looks like an incredible set up to me. That forged bottom with the right (lowered) compression will allow you to run those turbos and the tune to places that would be impossible with a stock bottom. I'm not a turbo guru, but my only input would be to make sure those turbos will get you to 1000HP if that's your goal. I'm sure some of the turbo gurus will chime in and confirm...

+1 on the I-beam rods instead of the H-beam. Look at the Wiseco also instead of Diamond for pistons.

I would recommend pistons in the -15cc area. With LS3 heads that puts you about 10:1.
This is the new preferred CR area to be in on FI motors. You get a more snappy responsive motor when off boost and spools the turbos a little quicker. Those 54/57 turbos have done 1024whp in a manual car but that's really all in. And we can do those with the Garrett ballbearing center sections for only $1000 more. It's a solid 10+% faster spool going ballbearing, so if quick response is really important to you, spend a little extra now. |

Meth, larger turbos with a larger AR and spend the $$$ on ballbearing turbos.

I was also looking at the 58/62 ball bearing turbos but was thinking lag would be worse with the bigger turbos. Would I notice much of a difference lag wise in the 58/62mm turbos vs the 54/57mm ones?

In the last year or two it seems like we've seen a lot of LS3 block failures on cars in that 1000+wtq area. It may be hit or miss but bottom line is the LS3 block is not going to be a sure thing with any more power than the 54/57's can put out. The iron truck blocks with ARP main studs seem to be reliable for a couple hundred more HP. And then anything over that has to be LSX. |

There's good and bad aspects for all pistons, but comparing the 2, Wiseco has the better reputation. Diamond are geared more for the earlier LS models like the LS1/2/6. I like the way Wiseco designed their pistons. Skirts are nice, the top ring is way down and the oil rings are 4 rings and not typical 3. They have a very sturdy ring that sits on the bottom and the rest of the oil rings are assembled on top. This is what was referred to me by TSP. Give them a call and see what they recommend. Let them know where you want your CR to be and what HP you'd like.

Im currently building a stroker 416. Should be done in a month or so…i also have the 54/57 turbos. I'll stop by again and update you on my progress. Goal is a safe 800 RWHP.
