Emission test problem in Chicago or NYC with long-tube headers and performance cam.

Hi guys,

I have Livernois Motorsports stage 2c cam and long tube headers (with cats) on my car (13 camaro ss L99). The car is fantastic overall. Love the sound and power. However, I have heard from Livernois that with these mods my car will not pass sniffer test in large cities like Chicago. Actually I am thinking about going to New York or Chicago after my graduation and want to know whether there is anyone who lives near big cities and has similar mods (intake, long tube, cam and tune). How do you guys pass emission test? Anyone from Chicago or New York?

Thanks a lot!

You'll have no problems as long as you have no check engine light

Illinois does not have smog tests.

Send a message via AIM to Pace
NY is okay with your O2 and Evap ready (no recent resets such as tune or battery unplugged), no Check engine light and Cats (if they do visual).

Illinois plugs into the OBDII and really just checks for check engine lights. No sniffer in the tailpipe.

Really?? I checked online and it seems that regulations there will suspend my driver's license if I fail the emission test.

Here is the link to the regulations:

Sounds great! I really love my car and want to keep driving and modding it even after I move to Chicago. Can you tell me a little bit more about the details? Do you do diagnostic test or sniffer test? What is the process of a car inspection in Illinois?

Thanks a lot!

All they do is have you get out the car then they go in and plug in to the OBD 2 and check for any error codes. Illinois is broke so there is no extra money for tougher testing.

I just passed the Chicago test, plug in, with out cats. You need to have the right program. I have a local buddy who can help you when the time comes. You might need to change a few settings.
