10 point roll cage

Hey guys, as the title says, I was wondering about a 10 point cage for my '13 SS/RS. To be more specific, I was wondering about what size tube to use, I'll be using moly just so you know, whether or not it'd be still legally streetable, and if there's a way to make one where you could still get to the backseats. Thnx in advance for the info & plz be civil whether or not you agree w/ a post.

Most roll cages are built using 1 5/8" tubing. You can save some weight going with .095" wall, chromoly steel over the .120" wall mild steel option. Chromoly does require TIG welding to retain its strenght in the welds.

If if it is legal where you live, are you going to wear a helmet while driving on the street? If not, then you are asking to die in a wreck.

Some more info on what you're trying to accomplish with the car would be beneficial. Every racing class has the info on cage requirements based on speed. You can say goodbye to your back seat permanently if you plan on being legal for anything requiring a 10 point, or even a 5 point for that matter. Rear crossbar must be welded in, putting a contortionist passenger in there will lead to their likely death in an accident.

I would be putting SFI certified cage padding on it. Thats also in a way good to hear about the back seat because thatll give me a place to mount the subs in the cabin of my Camaro but thats a different thread of mine.

SFI certified WITH a helmet. It won't protect a bare head.

So your not going to race on a surface intended for racing because it doesn't require much talent... Are you participating in Death Race 3 or something? Cause that would be epic!

Ok, I guess I should clarify that statement. Im mostly installing this cage for safety and not for a race-requirement. This cars gonna be a dd and I figure best to have this cage in the car that Im gonna be puttin ~$65000 into to protect my investment.

You want a street legal cage for illegal road racing? God I love irony.

And a cage will do nothing to protect your car it's there to protect YOU. So I guess unless you value your life at $65K you're sadly mistaken on its intended purpose.

What happens in a wreck when your soft head hits a steel bar wrapped in foam? Its not going to be pretty. Cars with cages race on the track and the driver wears a helmet...
