Sidepipes?? Anyone got them? Anyone make them?

Back in the day, side pipes were really popular. You could buy them anywhere, and you'd see them on everything from GTOs, to Camaros and Javelins. Anyone make them for the Camaro or have cats done them in? I don't think I'd want them, but it'd be cool to see them on a newer Camaro.

I remember, back in the late 70's, my buddy had an old beater GTO with sides and I would burn my leg on them if I wasn't careful... those were the days.

First link is what looks like a real side exit exhaust setup, 2nd link is photoshop. Either way, the only car's that should have side exit exhausts IMHO are the older 60's-70s Stingrays, and vipers.

I respectfully disagree with you, good sir.

It would never work. Today's sports cars don't have the clearance older cars did, and with no cats, you would never pass inspection.

I would think that some sort of rocker replacement might be necessary on our cars to get side pipes done. Heat and clearance are my thoughts on potential issues there.

Maybe a side pipe outlet integrated into the rocker, or replacement with something thinner and more heat resistant to allow side pipes to run the length of the door?

Obviously some sort of diffuser replacement would be necessary too.

That said, I think it would look pretty good. I'm unsure if there might be any performance benefit over stock, particularly NPP, but, yeah, might be a good look.

The red SS appears to have Hooker headers with side pipes, about $1200.00. But be warned you can burn the bejesus out of your legs!

Yep, that's the difference between "side-exit exhaust" and "sidepipes," as old hot rodders will be quick to tell you.

Those Vipers get hot inside the cabin with those side exit exhausts

the exhaust actually runs down the rocker panel, its just not exposed piping.

aaaaaanyway, getting off topic. I just don't think we have the room for true side pipes on a 5th gen.

I'd fear burning plastic or scraping the piping
