91 Octane

Hope I'm in the right section here, first time using this app to post

I own a 2011 Camaro with a V6, 28,000kms on it, can't say enough about it, I love it.

I am not sure what was used for fuel, but since I've bought it, I have been using 91 Octane, just want to know., Although I realize it doesn't need something this high, is it just a waste of money? Or does it run better? Or just plain personal preference?

Thanks

A lot of people will tell you it's a waste of money. I did my own study. I calculated my mpg using 87 octane and 91 octane and I personally got 2 mpg better with 91 octane. I also realized how much cleaner it is. With 87 I got black soot on the exhaust tips. With 91 I no longer get that black soot. I feel the extra $3 per fill up is worth it.

Same experience when I had my v6. Noticed a nice clean acceleration after I started too. I had to do a fuse pull though. When I switched my car would misfire now and then, did a fuse pull and no more misfires. Traded my v6 in.

Nice! Hope you're enjoying your SS! I love my V6 but I cannot wait to upgrade in a few years! Being married, in college, and having a 3 hour round trip commute doesn't allow for a V8 :( but in a few years when the drive is cut down I'll get a SS!

Boy what a difference, don't test drive a v8 till you're ready to buy, otherwise you'll think you 6 is slow and won't want to drive it!

the V6 will run better with 93, it's been proven by some members here. how much better, and how noticeable is a matter of debate.

This.

I also did my own testing (twice) and ended up seeing clear results in favor of higher octane. There's also a dyno sheet showing the increase in low end torque with premium. Additionally, I'm driving a '14 V6 LT as a loaner and it's running on 87 octane with a noticeable hit in performance, especially at lower RPMs.

Some technical reading on the LFX engine:

Dyno of LFX with Premium:

Now you're using the LLT, but it's also high compression and the foundation of the newer LFX (2012+), so I can imagine some benefit even if it's not of the same magnitude.

I love my V6, I just came from a 2006 Dodge Charger SRT8 that ran low 13s in the 1/4 Mile , best time was 13.1 and I still find my V6 Peppy and love its looks I switched for the Mileage and Its looks as well as is driving... I get alot more compliments on how my Camaro is nicer looking... it was a last minute choice to buy the Camaro as up until then for months I had been looking at the Infinitys G37X

I was a BIG Chevy Fan, (loved my 1986 Monte Carlo SS, had it for 19yrs) but then I bought my Charger and started teasing my Chevy Friends telling them I will wait for you at the finish line.. but now its me.... lol

Oh Well... Love it and NO REGRETS!
sorry for the rant there
