Rear view camera

With the visibility out the back of our cars I was wondering if this would be a good idea or not? What are your opinions on this??

When I first got my Camaro I was concerned about the blindspot backing up and merging lanes.

I considered a rear view camera set-up and almost bought the Gentex Rear view Mirror LCD with On-Star + Camera solution via Mito http://www.mitocorp.com/auto-dimming...a-display.html. I contacted Mito and their sales department connected me with a local dealer who would install this for around $600, a bit too steep for me. I know there are other solutions but I didn't want to have another screen. I also considered a combo rear view camera / LCD / GPS Nav system but didn't want a non-name brand nav system from Asia - http://www.4ucam.com/index.html#GPS. So I have not installed a solution and just make sure I know where I am parking to limit the need to back-up eg pull through a parking space to leave forward rather than back-up.

As for the merging - after adjusting my mirrors outward to allow for passing cars to move from my rear view mirror to the side mirror then to my ability to see them in the window the merging blindspot is not an issue. Here's another useful link - http://www.wikihow.com/Set-Rearview-...te-Blind-Spots

Better rear view and less front view. LOL

Just becareful backing up. Not worth it until someone replaces the radio unit.

I used this exact model in my FJ Cruiser. I made a custom mount above my rear view mirror, ran the cable up through the head liner. Worked great, I uninstalled it recently in prep for sale for the new Camaro. Otherwise I'd take a photo for you. Not sure how this would work in the Camaro, but I can look into it when I get mine in a few weeks.

With the serious blindspots, I think that would have been a great idea for Chevy to have put it in the car. I don't know where it should go after market. Maybe if you don't have the 4 pack gauges, it could work there. If you do put one in, let us know how well it works.

Plenty of companies make cameras where the rear view mirror is replaced with one that has a screen in one corner...

I installed this exact camera in my current car, 03 Chevy Cavalier. I took out a vent in the center & it fit in there like a glove. The picture is really nice, color & it works great. I already have a new one ready for the Camaro, if it ever comes! I know I can't put it in a vent like now, but I'll figure something out.
