I wish Chevy would finally get to DOHC (for us SC guys)

I'm insanely jealous of the huge intercoolers that the Ford guys have been able to run for decades now with the Ford DOHC engines. They just leave such a gigantic area in the valley to drop in intercoolers. I know there is some intense love of the LS engines....and they are certainly great engines...but I'd love to see Chevy get off the push rods and into the DOHC set ups.

Check out the size of the brick that Kenne Bell can fit in the Ford Coyote!!!!! I'm jealous...

Easy fellas. I came to Camaro from Mustangs. I wanted to give a Chevy a try. I'm not bashing the LS engines...just trying to create a technical discussion about the limitations of top engine intercoolers for us here.

There are other aspects of a pushrod engine that are more advantageous than a DOHC. Don't look for GM to drop it anytime in the near future.

That's true. I think top mount supercharging intercoolers are very low on the list of design criteria at Chevy. Although it always seems that all OEM superchargers seem to be top mount...

That's because it's more emissions friendly. One problem that comes to mind with having DOHC and even SOHC is cam swaps. At minimum you're buying 2 cams for SOHC and 4 for DOHC. Then there's the fact of timing it all. Everything has to be spot on so you don't crash the valves into the pistons. Lastly is head swaps. There is so much more involved with swapping heads. The benefit of having it is that there is no pushrod, so there's never a worry about a rod bending.

Chevy uses small superchargers in their cars. If you really want a huge blower cut a hole in your hood. I just hope Chevy never goes to overhead cams. I came from an EVOX, hell of a car, but it's overcomplicated and the drivetrain is crap. The coyote engine is a great engine, but there are too many people (consumers, engineers, etc.) that still want a pushrod engine. Rant over.

I knew this when I read your original post lol. Go turbo or centri, your issue is no longer an issue.

Chevy knows how to build them. They're building them now. Just in V6 form. Pretty bad assed little motor. 217 cubic inches (3.6L) sporting 305 hp. 11.5:1 compression ratio but still burns 87 octane fuel. It makes significantly more hp per cubic inch than the vaunted LT1 motor in the new C7 Vettes.

Mercury racing has dohc heads for the LS motors already. Just do a quick Google search. The thing I hate about them is the timing belt! Sure cam swaps would be a breeze but think of the service intervals of a timing belt. Every 60k and I'm sure they will be like the ford's and take $1k in specialty tools to set everything up.

I'll stick to the PROVEN timing chain on our motors.it's nothing to see 2-3-400k miles on a ls motor.

Just my 2 cents!

I would think that they can still utilize a timing chain. A lot of cars do use them still.
