I have 36,000 on mine and I got the HP tune. These engines are very well made and it could handle the extra hp with no problems. I got the tune almost a year ago and have no issues. I got a oil analysis done last month and everything is doing great. I have no problem my engine will last way past the warranty period. I having fun with it now instead of waiting for the warranty to expire.

HP Tuners is just a software package that can be used to tune the engine and transmission. There are several good tuning software packages on the market.
I think you are better served to find a good tuner and let them use whatever software they are most experienced and comfortable with. There are several good companies in Florida that can perform a tune on your car. A good tune will give you a small boost in engine power and can provide a substantial improvement in how the A6 shifts. Especially if you can find a someone that can copy the "LT" transmission settings to your car. There are numerous threads in the forum that give before and after dyno numbers for the LFX tune. Here is one of many threads about transferring the transmission settings: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=340877 I encourage you to take some time to read through the tuning threads in the forum. It will help you understand the process better. It will help you know good questions to ask when you look for a tuner if you decide to go that route. Good luck! |

Had mine tuned by Ryan at gpi in Jacksonville ar, it's a chevy dealer as well so they honor the gm powertrain warranty. Dyno tune was the best thing I've done to the car, had the convience of a dealer dyno tho.

IPF tune from Mike Doescher at Hillbank Motorsports in Irvine. Next to the Vitesse Throttle Controller, this was one of the best bang for the buck mods I've done. Did it at about 9,000 miles. I have 15,500 now and no issues. When I had it done, I didn't have the Apex Air Scoop, JacFab Extendolator and JacFab Ported Intake Manifold yet. I thought I might be running a little lean after installing them but I was told the tune adjusts to increased air flow and adds more fuel. I think KMPrenger is running it also and can attest to the increased performance. This is a quote from IPF Tuning:
If you have access to an HP shop that has allot of experience with HP and this particular engine you can get good results, however not all tuners have the ability to correctly map these engines. We have been doing this for a long time and guarantee the results are reliable and safe. Over 70,000 customers globally using IPF Tuning since 2003. We have been tuning the DI engines since they were first introduced and have done 1000's of Camaro's. We also have the ability for the customer to remove and re-install the tuning files as they please for warranty purposes. Hope this helps. |

I just wanted to say hi to everyone on here. If you can get a live dyno tune from a reputable shop who is very familiar with these engines go for it because you can get great results. There are allot of great tuners out there. If you don't have access to this type of a tune due to location or ease of access, price etc. we offer a great DIY tuning package and all of our Camaro customers have been very pleased with the results. Another nice feature of our tuning is you can remove the software from your vehicle at your leisure, any time you have a service visit and there are no traces left behind. There are many different types of software available and some of them are not easily removed and are traceable. Some software even leaves watermarks and trace files behind when removed. That is one of the benefits of IPF Tuning, the the process is very similar to how the factory communicates with the ECU and our engineers have over 20 years factory level experience in software development. We sell our software to many GM dealers around the world who have been using our products for many years. There are allot of different choices, so you just need to research and weigh the benefits, however to answer the first post in this thread, there is not a single aftermarket part that does not have the ability to affect warranty, a throttle controller is the same as installing any other aftermarket part. Dollar for dollar tuning will give you the best value and the most performance benefit per dollar spent. Not to mention installation is easy and you can remove at any time in about 10 minutes or less. You wouldn't be able to remove your dyno tuning unless you return to the installation shop, and they may charge a fee for using their equipment and time. Hope this helps your decision making process. |
