Rims scratched when putting on new tires

So i went to discount tire in greenville off congaree road and i gave them my rims that were perfect. no scratches or curb rash for over 3 years of use. give these guys my rims to put on the new goodyear eagle sport a/s i got and they scratch 3/4 rims all the way around. genius. got them repaired by mobile alloy wheel repair in greenville and installation refunded. Apparently corporate said they have been having several incidents at this specific discount tire. Just wanted to let you guys know so you dont get your rims scratched like mine did. 3/4 look new but the fourth needs to be redone again. Would have 4/4 looking new if it didnt happen in the first place. Pics are on my phone, uploading in a minute. The pic was of one spoke (ones of the full wheels are on my gfs phone) but it was scratched like that all the way around and on three wheels.

What do you do to make sure you can prove they were perfect coming in and that they did the damage?

I took pictures of all 4 wheels before I handed it over to them. They had a guy who came out and looked at the wheels as well but I wanted pictures. I didnt post those cause theyre on my gfs phone and didnt have to use them (they knew they were perfect when i gave em to them). Photo should have a time stamp on it too

They are hard to do, one of mine got scratched by people more professional than discount tire.

Then I went to this redneck truck shop and had 4 tires mounted on 20s. What did they do?
They used a bunch of rags to pad the wheels and put them face down in the tire machine.

Smart!

These wheels have soft finishes on them, discount tire is known for doing a crappy job so I'm sure the didn't even try to be carful, but it's not always the tire shops' faults.

I put like 3 or 4 layers of painters tape all around the edge of the wheel, works pretty well for me but even then sometimes things happen. Aftermarket wheels are usually reverse mount and that makes things a lot easier.

Had same thing happen to me at pep boys. Brought it right back and showed manager. He accepted responsibility and had them fixed.

Discount Tires are usually good shops. I believe it is an individual problem, and I hope they do something to make you satisfied.

good thing they lived up to re funding you. i have a buddy that brought his car there and they flattened the pinch welds on the bottom of the car and it took him like 6 months to get anything resolved.

it still amazes me on how out of date some tire shops are. with 18-22" wheels becoming standard on cars they have mounting machine that can do them flawlessly but tire shops are too cheap to upgrade.

Same here w/discount tire. Some of it was tire goo that polished off, but there are scratches as well. This even after I warned them about the wheels being easy to scratch. They seemed careful, so there must be something about how the mounting machine is designed.
