ford guys...
Now I know this is a camaro forum lol but in Ohio it is winter and there is a lot of snow. So I drive a ford ranger during this depressing season. I am wanting to turbo my ranger to make it into a "sleeper". Now, you might be asking yourself, why is he asking on camaro5? Well, that's because the guys on a ford forum would rather bash my idea than give me answers.
So this question goes to anyone who has experience with turbo-ing a vehicle. How hard is it to make your own turbo kit? I have access to pipe bending equipment and stuff. I am looking for a turbo guru haha. I was just wondering if it was worth attempting on my ranger. I know you guys/gals will come through, you always do!

I am no turbo-guru, but it will be much more expensive and time consuming to build your own turbo kit. I have no idea how well they work, but i have heard of some kids around town talking about the eBay turbos. But since the ranger isn't an already insanely powerful/ expensive vehicle, i would say give it a try, but be careful, upgrade your injectors, try and find a good cooler for the turbo, and a decent tuner. That's the general formula for a turbo. Look in to the safety systems as well, and possibly look on Youtube for some videos on how they work and what to look out for.
Best of luck. I'm in your boat too. I want to single turbo my 5.7 Ram Daily driver. If you find a decent brand who makes safe budget turbos, Please PM me as I'm curious on how the setups are for the application

Which engine is in aforementioned Ranger? The 2.3, 3.0, or 4.0? If 4.0 is it the ohv or ohc?

I woud start with stripping a turbo system froma similar sized engine. If you've got a 2.3L then there are all sorts of turbo 4 cyl that are close to the volume. Should be fun and the haters just have NO imagination and are probably watching Seinfeld reruns still instead of working in the shop. Where men belong.
