ZL1 drivetrain conversion: best price?
I'm getting ready to do the ZL1 drivetrain conversion on my manual SS. However, it looks like the prices have gone up lately. I remember seeing the kit a while back for under $3800, but now it seems most are charging over $4K for it. The cheapest I've found is this: http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/results...umber=22959394 ... Has anyone seen it for less?
I'm also confused with the product descriptions. I thought the kit came with 3.73 ring & pinion already set up (?), but I keep seeing "Ring & pinion included: no." Can the experts please confirm what the deal is with this? Thanks.

I'm doing it now. Yes, that is the cheapest, but in GM parts direct it adds 20% for shipping and processing when you add to the cart, it's how they make their profit margins work. I encourage you to PM H-E (Hendrix Engineering), for about the same price as the GM kit , you can get the ZL1 diff with DSS axles and one piece driveshaft, which will be way better than the stock pieces.
And yes, the rear axle has the gears already in it, mine even came filled with fluid. |

Here is a link to the lowest I've seen it advertised anywhere.
I ended up buying mine from Tom at Crate Engine Depot. He will absolutely price match and his service is fantastic! I highly recommend giving him a shot. Tell him Brent sent you, if you do.

Lol, no guinea pig, just was the first to get one, so had to verify a few measurements. The same DSS axles and driveshafts are used. Just made more sense than spending the same amount on stock ZL1 parts. You may come out better selling your shaft (especially if you sell your stock diff) and ordering the DSS shaft that will for sure bolt in.

Thanks, guys. 'Just got a great deal on the axles and driveshaft, etc. from Thomas at HE, as well as a great deal on the ZL1 diff. through Erik at Lashway Motorsports. I think it will be worth a few hundred extra dollars for the stronger axles and 1-piece driveshaft. Heck, I can easily offset that by selling my stock diff. and Dynotech 1-piece DS. This should be fun (if I can get traction--the next issue to address; LOL)!
