1LE Strut Bar paint

Hey guys!

I'm looking for ideas on how I want to paint the strut bar. If you have pics of your custom bar, please share!

Would plastidip work even though its close to the heated engine?

I'm planning on just using VHT black paint for mine. It's pretty cheap at any auto parts store.

I plasti-dipped both my strut tower bar and engine cover.

Love it. I was wanting red for the strut bar to go with my Red Hot exterior. No melting so far?

No, it's been about a Month now, no issues, I also use the "metalizer" and the "glossifier" on top of the red. I have since put white letters over the CHEVROLET & V8. Got those from www.pfyc.com $19.99.

So, will a simple primer followed by semi-gloss paint be sufficient, or does the bar require more "prep" or final "seal?"

No primer! just straight plasti-dip. Remeber, to remove the tape right after the last coat while it's still wet.

I bought an Ashen Grey rattle can from automotivetouchup.com.

I am planning on doing most of the bar in Ashen, with semi gloss black racing stripes, which will be outlined in red. This is to carry on the theme of the 1LE hood wrap and my red calipers and Roto-Fab intake.

I have not decided how to do my engine cover, but plan on using the Ashen Grey and Red for that as well.

Will do. I am hoping to get to it this weekend as the factory spec paint arrived yesterday. Any of you guys have suggestions for a rattle can that somewhat matches the rotofab red? Or the red on our calipers?

Yes, but use a good metal primer. I had trouble with the primer sticking well and had to redo mine. I had polished the bar first to get scratches off which may have contributed to the primer not sticking well the first time. Once that was fixed, I just used Dupli-color rattle can in carbon flash, then covered that with a clear. I then used my buffer and shined it all up.

For the brackets, since those are rough cast I used a hand grinder and cleaned off the edges. Then I used truck bed liner paint which dries textured. Still has the rough look as stock, but a lot smoother. No heat issues with the paint.

I painted mine with Pep boys matte and it's been 2 years and the paint is fine. The heat has not affected it at all.
