ZL1 20" tire options for the track

I have been running the MPSS tires and have been pleased with their all around performance. I do track days often and my car is also DD, but i have a back up car for rainy days. I would now like to try something that will give me faster lap times.

Seems the possible options out there might be:
Nitto 01 285/35-20
NItto 05 315-35-20

Hankook Ventus RS-3
285/35-20
305/35-20

G force rivals
285/35/20
315/35-20

Others? I appreciate any recommendations you guys have to offer.

The stock GY tires are better for track use than the PSS's. They work better when hot and are more consistent. I haven't used either of the other tires you mentioned so others and comment. Some people have been able to get used takeoffs of the GY's for very low prices, I haven't seen any killer deals in my area but I'll keep looking. Going to 19" wheels opens up many more options in track tires, you could go with a second set and keep the PSS's for street use only as they excel there.

Toyo R888s are very inconsistent, and they heat cycle out long before they run out of thread. Among those listed, NT01 is by far the best (and PSS by far the worst). It provides great traction until it cords - no early heat cycle issues, no overheating; very consistent! It also works at higher pressures (high 30s hot) unlike Trofeo Rs, so you don't need to choose between best performance and safety.

I had my Toyos heat cycled by Tire Rack before delivery so mine were pretty consistent feeling. They also seemed to wear nicely. Nitto NT01 always get great reviews and I'm sure you would do great with them.

Double that on PSS being the worst track tire.....GY's are way better and I find them all the time with 7/32+ on craigslist after it rains. I have 24 of them in my garage right now and I paid less than $50 per tire.....

I just put on a set of 285 &315 Rivals and they were great at the AutoX last weekend. I'm at a HPDE event next weekend so I follow up with more info but so far I'm very happy.

Todd - What is your opinion on the BRG rivals? How did they fare at the HPDE event?

It was a great day and I had a lot of fun. Firstly the conditions were sun with clouddy periods and the temp was right around 60*F so the track was cool to warm. This track, Mission Raceway, is VERY brake intensive with some good turns and lower speeds in the corners. Just so you understand the conditions.

The Rivals were definitely a bit greasy for the first couple laps, but as they heated they got better. The grip was solid and I was able to push the car fairly hard. For over all use they are much better then the GY in my opinion with decent cold grip and better wet traction.

I do not know if they will give me the same traction at the limit as the GY did when hot. And thats the problem for me. If I'm lucky I got 2-3'times a year that the conditions were right and there was enough heat for the GY to shine and the rest of the time I fought cold slippery tires. The Rivals so far give me much better performance but have not shown me the same grip at the limits but to be fair I have not tested them on a really hot day on a decent track.

I will be going back to The Ridge in Washington state in July so I will see how the Rivals do there. But so far the Rivals are 90% more useful with the GY possibly edging them out at the extreme limit. But that test is yet to be seen. Here is a video from yesterday.

BTW ZL216, I LOVE Louisiana and if I could convince my wife I'd pack up and move tomorrow. Definitly coming back there for anther vacation.

Todd, I love Louisiana food but could never take the hot humid weather. The last time I visited was in late Oct and the weather was perfect. A great state to visit, many great people also.
