Installing my TSP cam

Well as Friday was my birthday I was pleasantly surprised when the sweet Brown Truck "ups" backed in my drive bringing a box full of goodies.

Once I got car up and removed bumper cover radiator etc. It's not too bad yet. I'm in no hurry, I still have a Comp Cam rocker trunion kit coming next week. Probably get her back together next weekend. Taking my time trying to not overdo it on my old back. I gotta say it's just like wrenching on my 72 Cutlass back in the day. Except the bolts are longer and not rusted into place .....lol

I hope you like it and kudos to you for doing it yourself. As willing as I was to crack into my old 5.0, for some reason, I can't see myself opening up my LS3.

Alright the oil pump pick up bolt is just ignorant. That's just un-called for already. I used a piece of TIG wire and clipped it on the bolt so it came out without falling in the pan. Then it dawns on me how in the hell am I going to get this b+#ch back in there.

Why on earth did they not use the front hole "the one you can get to" or leave the flange loose so it could be spun.

Flexible gear wrench will make it easy. Good job doing it yourself, its well worth the time and effort. Not very many people can say they are able to dig into their engine like that.

Good luck driving it without a tune, I had a heck of A time driving to the dyno shop 10min away haha.

I sent the computer to TSP the car will be reassembled and ready when it gets back. If it's not to my liking I have a couple guys in my area that can tune on it later. But I'm being it'll pretty good.

I added the Comp cams trunion upgrade. Just finished pressing those together at work today. Bought a catch can to while I'm in there.

The cam swap went great. Texas Speed did pretty good on the tune it seems to run well. 6th great is a whore if your not pulling 1600/1700rpms. But that was expected it will still do great at interstate speed 70 +.

I managed to pull a trick and installed that pesky oil pump bolt without dropping the pan ! And without dropping the bolt

Wound some .030 sst tig wire around a 10-32 bolt in my cordless drill. Threaded bolt up into it to hold it in place before putting oil pump on. It was an exercise in patience but I think it was worth it.

Just leave about 3 coils around bolt once your sure threads of bolt are secure grab it with some vice grips and pull it off. It actually threaded it in a couple of turns for me when I removed the wire.
