The GM Recall on the key fob

bought a 2015 SS, I received two keys both are obviously the half assed GM's solution to the infamous I am giving birth to my steering wheel and knock the key out problem. I want to make my 2015 key set a switchblade style, looks like all I need to do is destroy the plastic piece holding my key in with a dremel remove it and place it where it belongs by drilling in to it and securing it in place with a roll pin. easy enough, however my question is if I dremel this damn key is the PATS system inside my transponder or is it inside the plastic housing for the key? I know my old POS ford had the transponder inside the key housing and not the transponder.

You'll be ok, it is in the FOB and not the plastic housing for the key.

Where can you get the rolling pin from?

There is a security chip in the new key, that is why they need the car when they do the recall, they need to program the new chip to work in the car and they are supposed to disable the one in the fob at the same time.

I just went out and with the fob in my house I took the key and started the car, drove up the road, shut the car off, then restarted it and drove back home. If there was no chip in the key I would not have been able to do that.
If you switch the key back to the fob then you will need reprogram the fob to work again unless your dealer didn't disable the fob security.

I assume from a hardware store I mean I was able to pick a few up when assembling my AR Lower for the takedown pins. I mean those roll pins are a bit bigger and didn't look for the smaller ones but I would imagine they have all sizes.

Unless they did something different on the ones coming direct from the factory with the separated fob I can't confirm that, I just know what they did to mine on the recall.

Guess I'll have to check my local Home Depot.

Even better: go to a real hardware store.

Those are getting very hard to find any more, Lowes and Home Depot have run most of them out of business.
