SS to ZL1 rim tire change
I have a 2011 2SS/RS that has stock wheels and tires. I just bought the Factory Replica ZL 1 rims in a 20 X 10 rim size that fit my Camaro for a 285/35/20 size tire so that I can have more grip at the track days. I checked and the Michelin Pilots Super Sport tires for this size are sold out with a back order and don't know when we will start again. I can get the Pirelli P Zero tires. What about the stock ZL 1 tires Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar G@ tires. I use this car as a daily driver for 7,000 miles a year.

I thought that somebody would have an opinion on this?

I would stay away from the Goodyears. They suck when it gets cool-cold out and are not very good in the rain.

There is likely several people here using any tire you can find in that size. Do some research to find any issues/limitations of any tire that you are considering. Aside from that, for a car only used in warm weather, pretty much any tire will work. Just a matter of brand preference, cost, and/or availability.

Would love to have the Michelin tires, but they are not available now or in the future. I could go for the Pirellis P Zeros for 3 times a year at the track. I live near Seattle, Washington where it is mostly temperate weather and sometimes colder than 40 F in winter. I know the Pirelli's are not as good as the Michelin tires for track. I drive 6,500 miles each year and have 33,000 miles after 5 years.

Pick up some of the ContiSportContact 5P's.

Any winter driving in temps below 40f, you don't want the GY Eagle G2's.
The Extreme Performance tires are all "summer only". Drop down a rating and they are mostly summer or "three season" tires, but could be used in the winter. |
