Should I have my dealer install my exhaust sytem?

I was wondering if I should have my dealer install my ARH LT's and Borla or should I do it myself?

To be honest I rather do it myself because "If you want a good job, do it yourself" and it gives me a great sense of accomplishment and pride.

And more than likely they will probably charge me an arm and leg for installation.

But what if I do it myself and for some stupid reason I need to take it in for warranty work on the engine (which i doubt because LS3's have been around for years) and they say.... "Well you didn't have us install them, so screw you"

Please help me decide!

Knowing how dealerships are, couldn't they void your warranty simply because you have non-factory parts on there...regardless of who installs them? Being on the Kappa forums (Pontiac, Saturn, Opel), the dealerships have given people problems simply from having the parts, whether they installed them or an outside party did. Honestly, I think it just depends on what dealership you use. Some have no problems working on cars with aftermarlet parts, and others have a huge problem with it. The service manager plays a big role in this.

I spoke to one of the warranty guys before and he said "The headers won't affect anything, all it's doing is freeing up the engine and getting more horsepower. It shouldn't be a problem, but if for instance you fry a valve or something....we have to see what caused it"

I am going to stop by there today and try to talk to the service manager and see if I can get something in writing, which I doubt they will do. Regardless of what they say those headers and borla's are going on!

Had my dealer do all the engine work on my car but then again I bought all the aftermarket parts from them and had them install it and it's back by there own warranty

If you've got the lift and an extra set of hands, I recommend you do it yourself unless you know someone you trust. I got screwed getting mine installed, and am still having problems. Nick adds good instructions in the case, and if followed properly should take no more than 3 hours. Warranty work is moot, because either your dealership will work with you or not (most likely will with headers)...with aftermarket products, the only warranty that is important is the one that the installer gives you...not GM.

Also, the Borlas are a bit different story. Since you have to use part of the OEM exhaust piping to fit the ARHs with the Borlas, it depends on your comfort level with cutting and fitting the two together. Let us know what happens!

I'm pretty good with my hands...I had a 1993 GMC sierra and had her bagged but wasn't low enough so I made my own C-notches and made her lay the frame on the ground. I think I should be ok. I know I'll take more pride in it that those goons at the exhaust shop or my dealer.

My dad always told me "Measure twice and cut once"

After owning BMWs for the last 5yrs plus I got used to just bringing the ride to the shop...but with my new ride my feelings have changed. My main concern is that if I bring my 'Maro in then whos to say that they wont scratch the underbody or something (Im using pads on my jack and stands to protect)??? that'd suck. So Ive been doing my own work and so far so good...granted it was just oil and cat-backs. Its been a breeze and i'll prob continue my own work as long as my garage can handle it. PLUS it a good reason to buy tools!

Talk to the service manager. Also with ARH you will need to tune the engine to get rid of "check engine" lights. In most cases that will void your warranty.
