Cold Air Induction CAI Install Question?

So I just got my CAI and was all ready for the easy 20-30 minute install and I'm stuck on step #1, disconnect negative battery cable. I know a lot of folks skip this, but it's connected to the stock intake and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get that sucker off. Any advice, specifically getting that thing off, would be helpful. Very frustrated. Thanks so much for any recommendations.

HAHA 20-30 minutes. Yeah, right!

After 2 hours of blood, sweat, and tears I finally got mine installed. Barely.

I now get to enjoy the remainder of my ZL1 ownership worrying about the air filter slipping off of the MAF tube since it just barely fit on it.

I had the same problem. It seems like the hole in the air box is off a little. The filter slipped off MAF housing once when I drove it. When I got back, it took 2 of us to push it back on and tighten it down. I cranked the hell out of the clamp. It hasn't moved since.

How did you know it slipped off? Did the engine throw a code or warning light?

I checked on it periodically after I installed it the first time. I noticed it barely fit like you were saying, so I just kept checking. Ever since I retightened it down, it's been good.

It didn't throw a CEL though, but I would keep checking it. I tightened it down when it was hot, since the filter material gets really soft when it's hot.

I thought the Cold Air Inductions CAI is the top dog in terms of fit, finish and performance. Should I be looking at something else??

It is. However, every car is "slightly" different, especially the way they choose to run all the wires under the hood.

What would the factory do different? I don't understand why the CAI should be a problem with some and not with others.

The MAF wire is sometimes ran different which can cause the CAI MAF housing to not fit properly. Either way it's ran, the intake will fit. It's just harder to install dependin on how the wire is routed from the factory.

Thanks for the clarification!! What is your impression of the CAI now that you have some miles on it?
