The major stregnth and major weakness of the Camaro.
Now this will of course be subject to what specific version you own and it may be personal preference as well. I've driven everything except for a 1le, Z/28 or Zl1, so my opinion is limited and I guess I'll stick with my own. The best part of the Camaro, is the way it looks. Countless people have said its a timeless and great design, which it is and then some. It's truly one of the best looking cars out there and that have been out for quite some time now.
Major weakness, weight. Simply put. Now I know my version isnt built for speed, handling or anything performance. But, after actually driving it hard or at least harder than normal, the weight of this car, if not handled properly, can get someone into trouble. It's a pig to handle when going through a fast tight corner (not a plug, but i showed that in the camaro review i did). My Camaro is truly an ass happy car. Which is fun and i like it because I'm an amateur and just having fun. But, in the real world, its slower than its competition. I know others who own different version's and maybe even those who own the same version as i do, may have different opinions. Just curious what others think. |

The Camaro is not an ass happy car. The Camaro is an understeering car. It pushes and does not oversteer.

The only downside to the v6 models is the lack of low end torque, in my opinion. I can burn rubber in my zl1 any day of the week, but not in my 6's.

LOL. Mine is. I've noticed that if I'm in the right gear and give it gas at the right time in or entering a corner, the ass will come out. Even at slow speeds, the ass feels happy. Or at least it does to me.

ive been down the track 31 times in 1 calender year. Ive beat the crap out of my car. It just keeps on running hard and ive lost 8 of those 31....boss 302s...5.0 gts...challenger scat pack...tubed and caged race cars. The only thing that didnt hold up were the tires which is fine by me. I drive 3 hours ..beat the car all day...drive 3 hours home. Lifes good in my opinion. The rest of the time it leads a good life safely stored in my garage. I dont see any weakness at all. Sorry for the ramble.

Ass Happy? Not a chance, it understeers like crazy. The only time I have ever had the ass around was on cold tires (one time @ turn 5 at Laguna) and on a wet track (turn 11 @ Laguna). The weakness on these cars = brakes and clutch system.

Flooring it in a corner and having the rear end kick out is different than oversteer vs under steer.

Hence why I said what I said.....There has to be a reason for the rear to come around....there is no way it over-steers into the condition....i.e. it is not ass happy

For me, the biggest strength of the Camaro is it's size. I'm a big guy & I always felt comfortable in my Camaros over the years. '78, '79, '84, '96. & I didn't feel cramped in the vette I owned, '05... but in this Camaro, I've got room to breath. Room to stretch out. Move my knees around a little... in fact, I feel small inside this car.
So far, the biggest weakness seems to be the long throw of the clutch. I've been driving it almost exclusively for the past week & it still ain't "right" I can't find that spot where I can anchor my heel & work the clutch from a single pivot point. But so far, my foot has to float on the pedal & I'm having to pivot at the knee... I'm sure I'm overthinking it. But that's the problem. I'm actually having to think about it. Can't wait till it becomes second nature & just muscle memory.

Go drive a F-Type. That car oversteers. The Camaro doesnt...
