Post Car limited to 85mph - help!

Hello all

I am new to this forum and would like to introduce myself. I am from the UK and have a corvette c7 stingray and just purchased a Camaro Zl1 - what an amazing beast!

The problem is that yesterday whilst driving the car home, it would not go beyond 85mph and a message showed up saying "speed limited to 85mph" - the suspension was very soft and this is NOT a "speed warning" which i know can be changed.

After searching on this forum, i think the car needs an update on the MRC (magnetic ride)? The only trouble is there are NO dealers in the UK! So i am looking across the ocean for help - how can i resolve this issue?

Can i reset the ecu somehow? I am doing the fuse pull method right now, is there another way to reset the mrc? Can i purchase a tune from the states?

Many thanks

You can go to any GM dealer or authorized shop. You can also disconnect the battery for a few hours or over night, and let the whole system reboot itself. Other than that, no clue ... Sorry

Go into the driver information center DIC settings ... Speed Warning Speed Warning allows the driver to set a speed that they do not want to exceed. To set the Speed Warning, press SET/CLR when Speed Warning is displayed

Hi

As mentioned, this is not the speed warning. That is switched off. Also, there are no dealers in the UK

Wow, both replies didnt read your post.

I dont have any experience with tunes, but you should be able to get something over the internet. I have seen it done, just not for the suspension.

Thanks for the reply.

Update: I have tried to remove the two fuses from the engine bay but that has not done anything. Is this the same as unplugging the battery or not?

There are 4 DTCs that tell you to either replace or reprogram the Suspension Control Module and then 8 DTCs for the actuators and the ride height sensors. It would be helpful if you could tell which DTC it is. If any of the DTCs are present you should get the DIC message "SERVICE SUSPENSION SYSTEM"

An Opel or Vauxhall dealer could read the DTCs but they would have to load Chevrolet onto their scan tool (laptop) and they may not be able to do that. I forget how it works for dealers. But they have the correct equipment and program. There are just different downloads for different purposes. They would also have a similar ability to program the suspension module.

No, when you disconnect the battery all the computers will be forced to reboot.

Try unhooking both terminals of the battery then touch them together for 2-3 minutes should clear the memory of the ECM

Thank you! There is no "Service Suspension System" or any warning lights at all - the only thing is that the "Tour" / "Sport" buttons are both unlit

Just out of interest, how much is a new module?

There is one 20 amp fuse that powers the Suspension Control Module. If there is an actual problem then that won't help but it is a decent thing to try. Just disconnecting the battery will work well enough. But if the problem is still there then there is a fault.

Replacing the module calls for programming it too so you couldn't just get a new module, you would still need the GM tool to program it- SPS.

If the fault doesn't go away it is also possible that one of the 4 actuators or 4 sensors are bad, or the wiring for them. It really would be best to diagnose it correctly which would require scanning for DTCs.

The procedure for the tour/sport switch fault

Circuit/System Testing
  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the S48E Multifunction Switch – Center Console.
  2. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the signal circuit terminal 3 and ground.
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate
    1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector X1 at the K9 Body Control Module.
    2. Test for infinite resistance between the signal circuit terminal 5 and ground.
      • If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • If infinite resistance
    3. Test for less than 2 Ω in the signal circuit end to end.
      • If 2 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 Ω, replace the K9 Body Control Module.
    • If the test lamp does illuminate
  3. Ignition OFF, connect the S48E Multifunction Switch – Center Console harness connector.
  4. Disconnect the harness connector at the K19 Suspension Control Module.
  5. Ignition ON, verify both the Tour and Sport indicators are not illuminated.
    • If either the indicators are illuminated
    1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the S48E Multifunction Switch – Center Console. Test for infinite resistance between the following control circuits and ground.
      • Terminal 7
      • Terminal 8
      • If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • If infinite resistance Test or replace the S48E Multifunction Switch – Center Console.
    • If both indicators are not illuminated
  6. Connect a 3 amp fused jumper wire between the Sport control circuit terminal 41 and ground.
  7. Verify the Sport indicator is illuminated.
    • If the Sport indicator is not illuminated
    1. Test for less than 2 Ω in the control circuit end to end.
      • If 2 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 Ω, replace the S48E Multifunction Switch – Center Console.
    • If the Sport indicator is illuminated
  8. Connect a 3 amp fused jumper wire between the Tour control circuit terminal 26 and ground.
  9. Verify the Tour indicator is illuminated.
    • If the Tour indicator is not illuminated
    1. Test for less than 2 Ω in the control circuit end to end.
      • If 2 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 Ω, replace the S48E Multif unction Switch – Center Console .
    • If the Tour indicator is illuminated Test or replace the K19 Suspension Control Module.
