Lightbulb So how good are our cars on a long trip

I have a training scheduled next month in RTP NC. Its about 7-8 hours drive from NYC. Last time i took a plane, but this time i am thinking of going for a long drive.

I have not had the opportunity to drive my car long distance, so i was wondering how comfortable is the overall experience on an 8 hour drive?

Am i better off not putting miles on it and just rent a generic Ford crapper () or would i be missing on the trip of a lifetime?

P.S. I will be driving solo, and it will be day driving. Any insight, experience, tricks/tips are appreciated.

I had no problems doing long drives with my SS. Then again, I have no problems doing cross country drives in my Stingray as well.

Cars are meant to be driven, and you should enjoy your car out on the road for drives like this.

I picked up my Stingray on May 28th of last year. I just rolled over 50,000 miles on it when I drove from North Carolina (I'm in Durham) out to Seattle, where I'm moving. I'll be driving my Audi SUV cross country starting next week to complete my move.

I do about 10-12 hours a day making the trip a 4-5 day trip. Don't push when you get sleepy...find a hotel, call it a night and get some rest.

I've done the drive from NYC to RTP a lot because my ex-girlfried lives up in NYC. I refuse to drive I95 unless I absolutely have to. Instead, I head NORTH out of NYC and cross the Tappanzee (or however you spell it) bridge, the head west a bit before heading into PA and down 81. I have GPS in both cars, and usually set the settings to avoid highways just because I prefer smaller 2 lane roads just because you see more of the countryside that way. It also can help avoid heavier truck traffic as well. Downside? It takes longer.

Once you get down to Staunton, VA I get off 81 (if I haven't already) and head to Lynchburg, VA, South Boston, VA, Roxboro, NC and into RDU area from there.

If you want to make it a 2 day trip, take a little extra time and take a side trip down the Blue Ridge Parkway as far north as you can get onto it...and just enjoy the ride in the "mountains".

My girl lives in Missouri. I drove about 9 hours a few weeks ago to go on a float trip in southern MO with her and her friends. To get to her place it's going to be more like 11 hours. The car was great. I was comfy the whole way and really enjoyed the trip, and mine is a lowered and rougher riding 1LE that I have to row the gears in.

great car to take a road trip in. Not totally comfortable in the leather seats (could just be bad posture) but other than that....like the above, it's a bitchin' ride.

Back in March I drove from OKC to Denver for a business trip. The car performed beautifully and I was faaaaaaaaaar more comfortable than I would have been crammed into a tiny little seat on an airplane. Temps were about 70 the whole way so I rolled the windows down and let the sound of the V8 keep me awake and going for the 10 hour trip.

I bought my SS for long Interstate trips. Been up and down the East coast plus trips to Indy & Canada.
Afraid to put miles on a car? Never understood that.

My 6 year old SS only has 38,000 miles, still low mileage imo- Just over 6,000 miles
a year. I bet you will love your trip South in your Camaro.

I've driven from Indy to NC coast 2 times (16 hr) and down to Houston last year. No issues at all, drives great and comfortable for me.

So far I've driven down to Va. once and it was great . I usually drive to Va . 3 to 4 times a yr . Next spring I'll be taking her down to Dallas Tx. and back . That should be fun . Should be a lot more comfy in the Camaro than the Liberty was for the TX trip.

Did 1,600 miles over 4 days last weekend, 522 the first day. No issues at all. Well, except gas money.

One word - fuzzbuster.
