Definitely interested in purchasing a used exhaust system. If any of you are off-loading your de-mod’d 5th Gen (before selling and buying up to the 6th Gen), PM me if you directly and give your feedback on my questions below.
I want to get a more aggressive sound out of my 2013 LFX V6. I’m not in a hurry so I’m doing tons of research. Looking for feedback from anyone who actually owns the any of the three options below and was wondering: 1. Are each of the systems are compatible with my LFX engine? 2. Is there annoying/unbearable highway cabin drone? Each of the videos below sound great to me but they're on 2010 LLT V6 (not sure if that will make a difference compared to the 2012+ LFX V6): Camaro V6 Loud Mouth II Axle Back Exhaust https://youtu.be/HK_x0x9-AUA SOLO PERFORMANCE V6 SXT Charger “MACH-SXT-LM” Cat-back Exhaust Kit https://youtu.be/BROR69BrrTU 2010-2015 Camaro V6 MRT Version 2 Axleback Exhaust https://youtu.be/-pFX0_hmfFg - Mike

Hello Mike, I recommend the MRT 2.0. This is the most popular set-up of all of them listed. It does have a slight drone at highway speeds of 68 -72 MPH. But drone is an issue that some notice more than others, for me it was never a problem. The loudmouth set-up has been discussed is to loud for some. the Solo set-up I was never impressed with as I heard it a few times, and thought my MRT's were much better. You can find a set of used MRT's here in the market section every few weeks for sale. Do a search, there might even be a set listed now. Keep an eye out daily as they do sell quickly once they are listed. Good Luck. - Mike

Thanks for the feedback Mike! I appreciate your insight as you and I've talked (written) about the MRT2 system before. I met someone at last weekend's CamaroFest in Ypsi and he seemed to be mildly disappointed with his MRT2 system - Said it's was a bit "too ricey" for him. He loved the start up note but thought it was too quiet after the engine settled into its standard idle RPM. I guess it really it just boils down to personal preference and that's why I am going to hear from other who own the two other systems to get their feedback (both good and bad). No matter what, any of these updates will be a big improvement over the stock exhaust that's on the now.

I know this wasn't on your list but have you looked into the Corsa exhaust setup? I have their cat-back and I'm extremely satisfied with it. I've seen a few people selling theirs. It's not the loudest out there but it has a good low, quiet rumble while cruising. Punch it though and it gives a good yell. Pair it with a CAI and it's even more dramatic. Just an option for you. Everyone has their preferences.

Don't waste your time with the also-rans, solo is the winner here. Zero rasp, zero drone, great start-up, quiet at cruising, and loud when you get on it.
LFX: I decided to record some before/after sound samples for those who are interested. I was previously running a stock intake with an aftermarket Green Filter, a VMAX PTB, and a SOLO Catback Exhaust. Here is the cold start video of the above configuration: http://www.youtube.com/embed/nRl7yfIrNcE 0-60 MPH In-Cabin sound, windows rolled up, normal Auto mode: http://www.youtube.com/embed/7DA3ATpw248 Updates May 2014: CAI Intake, a VMAX PTB, and a SOLO Catback Exhaust. Here is the cold start video with the CAI: http://www.youtube.com/embed/hz6AvmL1bME 0-60 MPH In-Cabin sound, windows rolled up, normal Auto mode: http://www.youtube.com/embed/Y_uGrDPGIk4 0-60 MPH In-Cabin sound, windows rolled up, M Sport mode: http://www.youtube.com/embed/5HOWLV3AfeU

Thanks for all the great feedback so far everyone - especially yzark99… This is exactly what I was hoping for: side-by-side before-&-after videos showing the incremental changes between added options. You really went above & beyond and I appreciate your foresight in capturing these videos before I ever asked for this sort of info. 👍

If you are looking for more MRT videos, I have plenty of those posted on youtube.
As for the quite when at idle, that is true, I call that stealth mode thru the sub, then get on it and it wakes right up. The problem I had with Cat Back systems is you are paying twice as much for piping you really don'e need to replace. There is also a sticky on the main V6 page with all the systems and combos created and posted to date. Be sure to check those out too. This was my standard post back in the day when running just MRT. I installed my own MRT 2.0. Then took it to the people who built it and had them weld it on. I have had many members on this and other Forums say this is one of the best sounding systems they have heard and by far the best sounding MRT 2.0 system. Take a listen for yourself. Listen to these thru some headphones or ear buds. Here is a few videos for you: This one is from inside my Camaro on the way to the dragstrip. This one is from inside my Camaro while at the dragstrip. Sorry about the Camera tipping. This one is one that SCRMNG filmed for me while we were at the dragstrip. the last 30 seconds is me on a single pass. This*last clip is one that danrc28 put together when visiting me to hear a MRT 2.0 system. He went from Toronto to Florida and back stopping along the way picking up sound bytes. The video starts off with outside rev's, then an on ramp full throttle run, then an acceleration run from inside while talking about drone. Tape finishes with me passing the camera on the highway doing 3rd gear runs. Which has not been recorded by anyone else using the MRT (or at least I am not aware of anyone with this type of recording.) (rcat's) My latest posted video of my system.

^While your post was useful, it doesn't really help when the OP has a LFX engine, and you have a LLT. Exhaust sounds will probably be very different with the same exact setup on his car.

However, I have heard plenty of the LFX set-ups with MRT's and they are HAPPY customers.

More sound clips that I made today:
Updates July 2015: CAI Intake, APEX Air Scoop, a VMAX PTB, and a SOLO Catback Exhaust. 0-60 MPH In-Cabin sound, windows rolled up, Sport mode: https://www.youtube.com/embed/bstXhxs5jCU 0-60 MPH In-Cabin sound, windows rolled down, Sport mode: https://www.youtube.com/embed/_eLlUEIBp88 40-60 MPH In-Cabin sound, windows rolled up, Sport mode: https://www.youtube.com/embed/4jI77Pp7mcM 40-60 MPH In-Cabin sound, windows rolled down, Sport mode: https://www.youtube.com/embed/IDAR-cAx5G8 If you get an intake with an open bottom like CAI, I suggest that you add the Air Scoop from Apex or another vendor. When I installed the CAI, I couldn't tell any performance difference between it and a stock air box with an aftermarket performance filter. When I added the air scoop, the CAI woke up and the difference was noticeable. The sound also increased.

It sounds real aggressive in low RPM, and sounds like a super car in high RPM. Swap in a set of SOLO J PIPES to kill the in cabin drones while driving on highway. Awesome exhaust setup, no regret. |
