Hawks pads squeaking?

My 6 piston front calipers with hawk pads squeak when then they get warm. Is this normal?

When I lightly apply the brakes, it's squeaks, a a lot of pressure on the brakes pedal and no squeak.

When I first put in my HPS pads on my SS they were squealing like crazy after the first time I went to the track. Mostly on lighter stops as you described. Eventually it went away. Other time they just started chirping a bit, but I think it was dust or dirt, since after I powerwashed the wheels it went away.

Which pads do you have?

I had Hawk Ceramics with SS Brembos for over 4 years (~22K miles) and they were quiet. Just did a quick bedding of HPS 5.0 pads in CTSV calipers. Been good for the last 4 day.

that's good to know. Hope my outcome is like yours. I'll definitely put some pressure on the wheels too.

Unfortunately I don't remember. I just know I search ZL1 hawks pads and I paid 172

Hey bud. That's pretty typical for the Hawks. They're more suited for the Track and don't squeal at high speed braking but do at slow speeds

Thank you

I've also just put the new Hawks 5.0 pads on my ZL1 and all is good on mine.

Pad squeel comes from a few different places;
1- brakes just need clean and service. Somerime you need to sand the surface face of the pad to clean them up
2- pads were not burnished in properly as oer the instructions
3- rotors were not cleaned properly before nrew pads were installed.
4- remember everything is a trade off. Nice quiet pads that dont make any noise are usually high in organic material but quickly over heat and have brake fade vs. higher metalic pads stand up to over heating but squeel a LOT.

if you are really stuck feel free to PM me and I can walk you through some options. I work in the automotive industry and deal with these issues daily.

This. Also, it really depends on which set you bought.

Which pads you bought makes all the difference. HPS shouldn't make much if any noise, but anything HP+ and higher will be noisy.

I just remember the box they came in was black and yellow. I'll take them off and put a lil sand paper to them and see if it helps.
I just hate when I pull up at a light and everyone looks at me like I need a brake job. But the brakes feel amazing.

I have Hawk HS pads that I use foe DD and the occasional track days in the summer. They don't squeal at the track; they do squeal at the lightest touch at stoplights when they are barely touching. A small price to pay for their excellence at the track and DD.

Thanks for the confirmation. Yeah they work great for aggressive braking.
