lifter preload with LS7 lifters is higher then stock LS3 lifters
Kip from Cam Motion sent me a message about a reply i posted on my engine having that sewing machine sound. He said I might have too short of a push rod and the Pat G lobes do not make any sound if done right. Right now i have 7.425 pushrods that put me at 1 1/4 turns to 22ftlbs. 1 turn on a LS3 = .047 so this puts me at .058 preload. well after doing some LS7 lifters require .080-.100 preload. So a 7.450 pushrod would put me at .082. a 7.475 would be at .108. I have seen some say you can go to .125 on the LS7 lifter. I want to be on the high side so its quite.
Can I go to .108?

I was under the impression that the ls3 and ls7 lifters are the same part number:

ls3 lifter require .060 preload ls7 .080 to .100 or .125

I would think the preload difference goes more to do with the difference in valve angle going from 15 degrees on a ls3 to 12 on a ls7 ? And any other things they deemed as its totally different heads and a higher output engine. And yes the lifters are the same for both.

ok the case circle of the stock cam is 1.506 the new cam is 1.419 so the difference is .087
the stock pushrod is 7.39? if you add the .087 to 7.39 you get a push rod of 7.477 to get the factory preload.

The difference is.087 but you must devide by 2 because that's the diameter of the base circle so the lifter will only drop down half so that would be a difference of .043. So .05 longer would be fine.

Yes. Divide by 2 because your looking for distance difference from centerline of the cam not distance difference from one side of base circle to the other. |

ok so 7.39+ .043= 7.433 so ill go 7.450 and that will give me .083 preload so stock preload would be .066

My car just picked up a bit of noise with a Valve Spring swap. Same GM ls7 cam before and after. So valve spring pressure plays a part in the noise.
