drivetrain recomendations. 800-1,000 whp.

I just purchased a built 2010 Camaro ss. it has a Thompson Motorsports 416 ci engine, ported heads, cam, oversized valves, headers, methanol injection, vortech YSI, etc..
It dynode 848hp at 7,200 rpm on 11 psi. He turned it down to 6700 rpm for reliability and it made 810hp. Sounds like he drove it easy and just did roll ons. I don't plan on putting a cage in it and drag racing it a lot, but would like to take it out a few times and get kicked out I guess.. I do plan on driving it hard and doing some street racing. Every thing else is built to handle the power except the drivetrain. It is a manual and has a clutch in it, but transmission, drive line, rear end, axles are all stock... I want it to be reliable and not break. It has 315/35/20 nitto nto5r's in the back. phadt lowering springs, bmr bolt in subframe connectors, bmr front and rear sway bars.
I have done some reading of the forums. I wan't it reliable, but don't know if I want to spend $5,000 on a drive shaft, rear end, and axles.. Looking at a bolt in stock complete zl1 rear end.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2010-2014-Ca...29bfc1&vxp=mtr

Drive it like it is for now. don't know if I will want to turn the power up more latter on. What should I do?

New to cars, but not new to performance stuff. I have owned a lot of motorcycles. big motor, nitrous, turbo, supercharged, etc.. Currently have a 600hp turbo hayabusa street bike with ams 2000, etc.. Also have a 650 rear wheel hp 2005 Chevy Duramax.

Thank you
Jeremy

That link is to a 1le rear not a zl1. The 1le isnt any stronger than stock ss.

oops... linked to the wrong one...

I know they also make this kit.

seems like if I am spending that much I might as well just go for something like this:

I don't have anything productive to add to this, but a 600hp 'busa sounds ****ing awesome. Terrifying? Absolutely. Awesome? Hell yes.

Last year I had a smaller turbo system on with a stock bottom end. I ran a 8.22 at 177 on 17psi boost. This year I have had a few issues and too busy working to race it or work on it. I have had it out 3 times this year. A lot of new stuff on it for this year I am trying to learn and get used too. I turned it up to 23 psi one pass, but it wheelied the whole 1/4 mile. it was a ugly dirty pass, but it was fun. let out 3 times because the front end was too high. Got back on it again and the front end came up at the 1000' and wheelied across the line. 9.1 at 170. I ran 19psi last time out. 6 passes all 180+ mph. best pass was a 8.3 at 185.7mph. Bent the output shaft and messed up 2nd gear in the transmission. waiting to get trany fixed now. 600hp is about 33psi. I don't know when or if I will ever be able to turn it up that high and keep the front end down.
Fast is relative. I remember the first time I built a motor in a 2001 gsxr 1000 back in 2002. It dynode 176hp. the first time I rode it I was literally shaking because it was so crazy fast..

If you go the ZL1 diff way we have upgraded axles and Driveshafts or that set up also. The 9" is always a good Diff also.....

if I get the used zl1 rear end would that hold up to 1,000 wheel hp? Does the zl1 handle better or do any thing else better or does it just hold more power?
I guess I just realized if I get this:

http://www.driveshaftshop.com/domest...conversion-kit

It does not include the differential. So I am in it $4,700 and still need differential to go in it..

My stock axles were from another car that saw 1000rwhp launches at 6k rpm with a manual and are still going. If that answers any questions. The zl1 diff is a lot stronger than many think.

looks like that zl1 rear is 3.73 gearing. what is stock on a 2010 ss with manual transmission? what would be good gearing for some drag race and mainly playing on the street with 315/35/20 drag radials?

Stock manual rear gear is 3.45. But the stock ss first gear is lower than the zl1. SS first is 3.01 compared to the zl1 trans 2.66 first. I have the zl1 trans and its good. But the ss trans is just about perfect with the lower 1st gear. Perfect combo for ss trans is 3.73 because thats the only good choice for the zl1 rear. Dont think to long or that deal will be long gone. All you need is the right driveshaft to make it work. I would get the driveshaft shop one if you dont have the gm one already with a package deal.

Correct, we now have the new Pro-Formed housings with quite a few more changes (softer bushings, sound deader in the tube of the shaft, fixed outer CV's, magnetic drain plug Ect....) if you shoot me a PM i can help with getting an idea of how to set it up for your car and what it would cost.

The ZL1 is a nice set up, gear choice is limited, We have seen several axles and shafts break on them but not as many as the SS parts.

You might give our fabricated 9" IRS kit consideration for those power levels.

Our products also come with a Lifetime warranty.
Give us a call if you have any questions.
