Exclamation Question about gear swap...

My car is in the shop having a full BMR suspension put on and GM 3.91 gears put in, my question is about whether I need a tune or not after the install. I know the suspension parts won't require a tune but I'm not sure about the gears.

Any help or advice is appreciated.

Thanks,

Kyle

you will need the speedometer calibrated for the new gears. This is supposedly available from the dealer yet many have posted they could not get it, yet my tuner could do it no problem and has the same GM software and hardware dealers have. I guess its more in who knows how too.....

Do you already have a personal tuner you go to for your tuning? My tuner adjusts gear changes for previous customers for free because it literally takes him 30 seconds but yes your speedo will read a higher speed than what you are really doing.

So u don't need a tune other than speedo calibrating?

All you need is the speedo calibration. Have the dealership do it so that it is documented. Otherwise, if you ever have a drivetrain failure and they check you flash count it will not match. Bye bye warranty.

Ok, thanks guys. I'm curious because the car is still in the shop and I'm leaving for camarofest on Wednesday so I wont have time to tune it as my tuners shop is jam packed at this time of year. Just don't want to hurt the car at all.

With your car thinking it is driving at a faster speed it will put more miles on the car as well obviously. Your tuner shop can't just make a quick change? It only takes them a minute or less lol. It's worth a shot at least

I'm going to have Rodgers Chevrolet do the speedo recalibration and then i should be good. + I'm trailering the car down there and really only going to be running the NCM road course and to the dragway....
