LS Fog Light installation and VA inspection

I just purchased a new 2015 2LS. I have ordered and received a fog light kit from Phastek and am ready to install it. I've been told that Virginia Law will require that the fog lights shut off when the high beam head lights are on or it won't pass inspection. Has anyone had fog lights installed on an LS and had their car fail Virginia Inspection?

Would a switched system from Gen5diy allow it to pass even though it is manual switched and not automatically switched off when the high beams are on?

Thanks for any assistance.

Jon

It wont pass on a manual switch, has to be wired into low beam switch

I had that discussion when I lived in VA and had a Jeep. It has to automatically disable them with high beams. You can still have them manually switched on, but you'd have to add a circuit to disable with high beams.

You can try this: Remove power and say they are decoration only.

nope. if they are there, they must work. you'd have to remove them if they dont work OR fix them.

Any reason why they must turn off when the high beams are on?

They can be there for decoration. Just remove bulbs for inspection.

Even after-market equipment has to be in proper working order at the time of inspection.

Gen5diy can make you a harness to do whatever you want them to do. He made me one that made the fog lights the running lights, stay on with the lows, and turn off with the highs

I had an accident last Jan. Needed a new front bumper, headlight, & qtr. panel repair. Knew a guy that could do it cheaper and do some upgrades like install fog lights with the money I got from the insurance company. Not much fog around here just didn't care for those blank panels of the LS. He had my car for a week and I needed it back so I took it with the bulbs/housing installed but the wire harness had not come in and he would finish it up a little later. Unfortunately he was having some health issues and unexpectedly passed away before it was completed. Couldn't locate the harness at his shop and just figured I didn't want to buy another one when I wasn't to concerned about them being operational anyway. Had the inspection due this month and knew if they were there they must work. I just plastidipped them so it looks like the original blank panels and had it inspected couple days ago. Not sure if I want to go thru this every year or just order another harness.
