Cam install question
I am getting ready to do a cam swap on my L99, probably going with the night fury cam. Question I have is do I have to do the VVT and DOD delete in order to do the cam swap? I have the DOD deleted via my SCT tuner now. I was told that I had to do the DOD delete in order to do the cam. What are the advantages or disadvantages of deleting or not deleting?

Yes, to run a Night Fury you will have to delete everything and run a basic LS3 setup. To make more with less, look into a VVT cam and take advantage of what you have.

Look into the GPI SS2, SS3, and SS4 cams depending on your goals. Talk to Rhino79 on here. He has the fastest cam/head only car on the list. VVT is the way to do it!

They make the night fury with VVT http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=355226
you need to replace the stock lifters to do a cam and that will eliminate the AFM/dod

I always see people on here saying that a VVT cam is the way to go, but then why is there a ls3 conversion kit? Do you make more power with a VVT cam for the L99?

yes you can make more with a VVT cam and better drivability. Aftermarket VVT cams are very new. Not long ago the only cam swaps you could do on a L99 was a LS3 cam so you needed a ls3 conversion kit.

Thanks for explaining! Another question what are some good VVT cams that make alot of power, but are still good for daily driving? I was thinking about getting the Phastek Stage 3 LS3 Camshaft by MTI/Comp Cams with L99 to Ls3 conversion kit and BTR titanium valve springs. Not sure anymore lol.

So would you pick up more hp going non-VVT? It seems to me that ppl going VVT are getting less hp? Is this true?

I daily drive my GPI VVT SS3.
I have other mods (ported heads, 3.91 gear, 3800 converter), and I just want to share that I trapped 123 and 124 on two different passes last week.
