Best OTC wax (currently using Meg's Ultimate wax)

I like Meg's Ultimate WAX (liquid) for its ease of use and it doesn't turn plastic white or leave dust and definitely shines good but it doesn't seem to bead water well or last a long time. Or is it not meant to bead water but perhaps sheet water? Anyhow, I'm out of it and before I buy more I just wanted to get a heads up on anything better that can be bought at any Walmart or auto parts store.... Thanks.

A clay kit to prep the paint first for whatever wax your using. Megs White Wax is a good cleaner wax, lasted for about 3 months on my F150 4x4.

Collinite 845 will give you much longer protection, however, it's not as easy to use as Megs wax's.

Be sure the bottle is warmed, set it out in the sun for an hour or so, you don't want any clumps in the bottle when applying. Apply a very thin coat. If you apply too much, it is difficult to remove.

Here's a thread which will help you with application of C845.

Another vote for Collinite 845

However I think the Meg's Ultimate wax is one of the best over the counter waxes out there. And when I used it it had decent durability for an over the counter product and it definitely DID bead water on the flatter parts of the car like the roof and sheeted water off the more inclined parts of the car.

Pinnacle Souveran (sp), Zymol Carbon, Creme, or Titanium, or P21s would get my vote. Any of these waxes should blow away a Megs or Mother's OTC wax.

Wal-Mart sells Mequire's Cleaner/Wax. It's easy to apply and wipes of with no leftover
powder or film. I've even used this on my black antique cars before shows.
Good stuff imo.

collinite 845 is a great suggestion, stuff is pretty easy on and off. longevity is awesome also. though I will say that not all advances have it, for instance in my area that are about 5 stores and only one has it and that is only about part of the time. I usually get mine off I believe autobarn website. usually it is listed on ebay when I search for Collinite 845

Weird. I've used Meg's waxes since the early 2000's and I've noticed a decline in its quality of beading beginning around 2006. I just waxed my car last weekend with Ultimate (liquid) and washed the car tonight and there was no beading what so ever. It looks good (no complaints on the shine). I used to like Liquid Glass but even they changed their formula and its not the same anymore (they where forced to change it because of the chemical that was in it).

Know what, I have an old bottle of Meg's #26 carnauba.... maybe I should try that and see if it beads? I also still have some Autoglym Super Resin polish but to be honest with you, I think Ultimate shines WAY better than that.

I wonder if I'm buffing it off too soon and not letting it set up completely?

Ok I just checked stock for at the nearest 20 Advanced Auto stores on the website and all are out of stock. That's why I just want to stick with something that is readily available OTC. Hmmm...

I use megs 26 also, good stuff but will only last 4-6 weeks but it leaves a luxorious feeling to the paint. "warming" is what some people call it. basically makes the finish look good. just got to reapply every few weeks to keep the look.
