Is this covered under warranty?

I took off my stock spoiler to add the zl1 spoiler and the paint near the holes is DESTROYED. Is the paint covered under warranty, specifically its near the holes that are going to show with the new spoiler. Any information on the matter is welcomed!

I would hope it is covered. If not, that's terrible

Are you still under your "bumper to bumper"?

I would say that this is not covered, either way. The issue does not exist with the car as stock, so adding an aftermarket modification is not a reason for them to cover something that is otherwise, as stock, hidden.

i dont think an extended warranty covers paint protection. it may be under the factory paint protection warranty still

I would have to agree with pickwithaustin and say no because with the stock spoiler there, it is covered, but it never hurts to ask a dealer to see.

There are several threads on the topic, many this year. I would search the Warranty or Cosmetic forums.

Yes this is covered GM issued a TSB on this paint chip issue. I had my rear deck lid was re-painted and my dealership filled in the holes for me as I installed my ZL1 spoiler they did this as part of the TSB. I had mine done back in 2012 at the time I was out of my 3/36k warranty.

I am no warranty expert, however, I believe these cars to carry a corrosion protection in the warranty. I could see where this might fit in that scope, as this could obviously result in corrosion at some point.

I think you might have some trouble getting this covered because you removed the spoiler yourself. At this stage, there is probably enough room for doubt in their eyes that perhaps this was the result of the DIY removal and will probably deny the claim.

At this stage, I think you have one of three options.

A) Sand, prime. and paint these spots yourself. Then install the spoiler.

B) Take the car to the dealership as is and ask them to fix the paint spots and install the new spoiler. I only say to have them install it because it might help with any issues down the road. Of course this option might require you to pay out of pocket.

C) Put the old spoiler back on, just like it was. Then take the car to the dealer to have the new spoiler installed and hope they don't notice that you had already removed it previously. Of course this does not guarantee that they will fix the paint, and you won't be able to ask them to because then you'd have to admit to removing it. However, they might fix it and file the claim to GM under the corrosion protection.

I wonder if I can claim tsb even though it's not a 2010 or 2011. I have a 2013, but the paint damage is ridiculous and wouldn't happen if they correctly attached these spoilers

Does not cover all 5th gens, only the early ones.

If you have a spoiler then you are nearly guaranteed to have paint damage. Owners are advised to have the spoiler pulled off and lay down 3M Automotive tape (or similar) immediately after purchasing the vehicle. The wind simply knocks the spoiler into the trunk lid all day long. Apparently, GM is aware and has made a conscious decision not to spend $2 to prevent a $500+ problem.

I know it was 2010-2012 but you can still reference the TSB and take it to the dealership. Go to David Maus Chevrolet talk to the service manager show him the TSB and they will send you next door to the Toyota body shop for them to look at it.

I did this with mine I had no issues they saw the damage and said they will take care of it.

Your best bet is head to the dealership armed with the TSB and show them the pant chip issue I would be surprised if this was not taken care of for you.

Yeah, unfortunately this seems to be a common problem even my 3 month old SS has it. I would also think this would fall under corrosion. If it doesn't get corrected it will rust.
