Another 2010 Timing Chain

My 2010 is in need of the timing chain being replaced. just at 80,000 miles, and warranty just expired. this is my first problem that I've had with the car to date. i know that this is a very common problem, and that there is an extended 10 year 120,000 mile warranty on all the other GM's with this motor. I've always done used Mobil1 at scheduled intervals with a k&N oil filter for the life of the car, and it sees 95% of its miles on the 122 mile round trip drive down the interstate for work with the cruise set at 75.

Has GM done anything to help anyone with this to date? or am i stuck doing it myself? I've already bought everything to do it, chains, tensioners, sprockets, the works. just don't know how i'll find time to actually work on it with my work schedule (14 hours a day, 6 days a week).

for the time being, the car is just sitting in the driveway rotting away, looking all depressed till i figure out what to do.

the only modifications to the car, are a long tube intake, and flowmasters, as well as suspension, so nothing that would contribute to any additional wear on the timing chains.

what are my options? and what have others done?

thanks,
greg

The dealer may do a one time good will repair for you. Some people have had luck with this after going to their servicing dealership.

Good luck but I doubt you will get any help from GM. You say you change your oil on "scheduled intervals".
In my opinion that not nearly enough. I've done 9 changes in 6 years and 38,000 miles on my '10 SS.
Usually my computer says 60-70% remaining. Either way, good luck getting your Camaro repaired.

A timing chain is a normal wear item. Unless you can prove it was defective, I would not expect any sympathy from the dealer. A chain should not be worn at 80k, hell most belts do not need service till 100k.

You should have no problem with your timing chain. This is a V6 issue not a V8 problem.

I change it every 5,000. Most of the miles have come in the last 2 years driving it to and from work. I bought a new work car Friday, gotta swap a tranny in it, then the camaro is going back to weekend warrior/toy status.

I don't know why chains keep going, could that be why GM has switched to Dexo's oil instead of full synthetic?
