Noise from the shifter

It rained several days ago and so I had to drive through a lot of puddles and fairly high water. I immediately started hearing sounds from under the car. It's not grinding, but I can hear things going on down there when I'm shifting. It's as if the water washed away any lubrication.

Other than the noise, everything's working correctly. Any idea what this could be?
