Extra HP, N/A or supercharged?

Thinking about adding a little extra hp to the 1LE. I've been looking at doing a LSA conversion or possibly installing a LS7. I am leaning towards the LS7 because I do like the extra 80-100 N/A hp over the 1 LE, keeping the weight relatively the same weight and not having cooling issues. The pluses for the LSA conversion, less expensive and 150+ hp. Any opinions or members that have been in the same boat?

80HP can be picked up fairly easily withi CAI, headers, and cam. For far far cheaper than an LS7 conversion.

But I'm with you, LS7 all the way. It's lighter than the LS3 and, well, 7 liters for the win.

I was talking about an extra 80+ hp, converting over to a LS7 from my current modded LS3.

They are both aluminum engine blocks with aluminum heads, and similar accessories... How much lighter is the LS7..?

Stock LS7s make 430whp or so. So you're losing power not gaining. Unless you are planning to do the same mods to the LS7 that you have done to your LS3?

The diff from your modded LS3 to a stock LS7 is not all that great .Remember an LS7 is only 505 hp at the crank ,so your modded LS3 at 465 RWHP is only about 15 or 20 RWHP less than a stock LS7 . Stock ZO6 LS7's put down between 450 and 470 rwhp depending on the dyno. A good set of ported heads on your LS3 with the cam you have should get you at the very least the same RWHP or more as a stock LS7 for a lot less money . Just something to think about . There are a bunch of LS3's out there putting down a solid 500 RWHP with a cam and heads and bolt on's with a sharp tune. I have never seen a stock C6 ZO6 LS7 put down less than 450rwhp or more than 470 RWHP on pump gas with the factory tune.

The LS7 will have an aftermarket cam and milled heads. I'm estimating around 540-550 rwhp.

Op, not sure what you mean but acording to your sig you are making a tad bit more with your LS3 than a stock LS7. LS7s usually dyno in the 440-460rwhp range.

LSA swap will net you more power than the LS7 motor will and a lot cheaper.

You appear to be a little confused. Your piece above contradicts itself.

Ah, now I see what you meant.

Both set ups would be sick. One will be a LOT more that the other.

I've seen multiple C6 Z06s dyno below 450whp. With only a few hero runs in perfect conditions with what I guess would be called a factory freak car that were in the 460 area. The LS7 is not an engine that has a reputation for being underrated. If you do the math using a 12 percent drivetrain loss, 440-445 is about where they should be on average, with exceptions on either end of the spectrum based on varying dynos, weather conditions, and the particular car.

Where did you fit the extra cam?

GM Performance Part long blocks come in at 485 pounds for the LS3, and 444 pounds for the LS7.

All great numbers when you conider that a Miata 1.8L long block runs over 420 pounds.
