WINTER SETUP FOR SS.... 18" STEELIES/SPACERS OR 20"
OK, so I picked up a set of steely 18" from an LT.....and surprise....they don't fit. Hit the calipers.... So, I picked up a set of 1 1/2" hub centric spacers....and problem solved. They no longer hit the calipers and the studs don't need to be touched. HOWEVER......I am not sure they now have too much offset where if I put a set of 18" snows on it, they will hit the fenders. Freaking out, I picked up a set of 20" take off SS rims.
So, my question for those of you that are experts in this matter.... I know Tire Rack recommends 18" snows for the car. I want to run the Pirelli Scorpion's Snow/Ice (or Winters......what's the difference?) and if the 18" will work using the above setup (with spacers), Ill go that route. If not, Ill go with the 20's....not ideal, but *should* work, no? FWIW, I also know I need to change out the inline skate pads on the front....no big deal. Any ideas? I'd love to hear somebody that says they run the steelies, 1 1/2" spacers, and snows with no problems......if you are out there. Thanks! |

I am pretty sure there are not many if anyone running 18 inch steels with spacers and snow tires. The 18's (if they fit properly) will work better because they are a narrower taller profile tire that will cut the snow better. However many people running 20's with no issues in the snow. The snow tire makes most of the difference.

Run the square 245/45R20s for the stock SS wheels (8" and 9")

Thank you all for the advice. Guess Ill go with the 20" take off's I have. Rudy, what is the difference in the Pirelli snow/ice scorpions, and the Winter Scorpions? Which would you suggest on the stock SS staggered wheels? Go with the 245/45-20 that Blue Thunder suggests?
Again thanks guys.....love this car! |

Winter setup of Steelies/30mm bolt on spacers here...
Needs to cut off the roller skates on the front pads and also cut off the rounded tip of the lugs.

Sounds like you already decided which route to go, but for others who may still be deciding another route is 19s with snow tires. They don't require any modifications and you can run a common tire at all 4 corners. I also like having a little more sidewall compared to 20s when hitting potholes in subzero temps.
