3D Print a Camaro?
Hi everybody!
I saw this page recently . . . . 3d printed car Apparently you can 3D Print a nice Camaro (Toy size at this point) model. It got me curious and then I came across full blown 3D Printed cars that are actually drivable. Like these guys (They are from Detroit!)) https://localmotors.com/3d-printed-car/ Is anyone here familiar with cars (real life cars) and 3D printing? |

Local Motors was actually printing one of those cars live at SEMA last year. It was pretty interesting to watch. I have heard that several other companies are experimenting with printing components.

While at my past employer, we used that technology to produce actual models of our cad designs so we could show prototypes at SEMA. Assembled and painted, they looked like the real metal parts. Very cool!

Are you talking about life size 3d printing.
I recall a post on here a while back regarding someone having a camaro 3d file if I'm not mistaken. I know very little about large scale prints. I am taking drafting classes and we will be doing small 3d prints. I think all you have to do for a smaller print is have something drawn in 3d cad, convert it to a makerbot file for example and it will work. For those who have seen and heard 3d printing going on I'm sure you will have to enter an insane asylum after listening to hours of beep beep, zit zip, cha, cha, cha bleep. Lol I seriously would love a 3d printer to make custom parts for my car. Lol Like the rear diffuser of my own. Lol

A life size version would be impressive. Either way it's still pretty incredible.

This came from a Davinci 1.0 machine and designed in Sketchup (which sucks) but now I'm using Solidworks so I have an actual part that fits correctly in the works. After being plastidipped it looks kind of cool but the finish is not quite there yet.

I also modified the file and printed a side of a convertible.

There is a learning curve to get them to work the way you want to get decent prints but if you are patient you can either find a answer online or work it out yourself. There are many 3d files out there, some work better on large scale printers and dont work well on small ones. Trial and error.
