Weld racing wheels questiin

I'm currently in search of a set of weld racing wheels but I am new to the dimensions of drag set ups. I am looking for a set of 17 or 18" wheels, but I daily drive my camaro so I'm looking for a size for the front wheels so that I can run a regular street tire not a skinny. What dimensions should I be in search for? Thanks

i currently have 18x11 rear and 18x8 in the front. 28.8 inches tall so they will not throw a code. i have nitto 555r in the rear and nitto motive 255/45/18 in the front. Car handles well, when i first started i was in your shoes. Yeah it would have been nice to have some front skinnies but i couldnt find a tire for a 18x5 that was within the 28 inches. But i also knew that i couldnt make sharp turns if i had too with skinnies so i went ahead and went with the 18x8 and loved it. I know alot of people go with the 17in setup as well. tires are more available. ill try and post pics if my car with the 18in weld rts wheels on

Ok did you have any issues with rubbing on the LCA? I've heard of some people having trouble with the inner rim rubbing with the 17's

With the 18s you dont have problems with the lca, i know with the 17s you will have to cut into the lower control arm so that it can fit. I know some stores already have it cut already, some people on here have sold some as well. I just put a zip tie on the e-cable and that was about it

Corners great, almost like factory to tell you the truth. I live in texas and we have alot of potholes, so sometime you got to make that sharp turn to avoid them, i dont know about making a sharp turn with skinnies in the front or hitting the pothole.

So where are those pics? ;-) I'm thinking of going with virtually the same setup, but 18x9 in the front. 'Curious to see how the 18x11s fit with the 1" drop. Do you have the wheel specs? The widest Weld's fitment guide shows is 18x10.5. I've seen some guys squeeze 325-width M&H DRs on 17x10s, but I don't want all that sidewall bulge.

Unless you modify your stock LCAs, you will need to get one of these:

I wouldn't go as far as saying I know more than you but Weld's fitment guide says for the 17x10 wheels for 2010-2015 SS and ZL1:
"~ Lowered or stock ride height , replace lower control arem with BMR# TCA28 or TCA29, check clearance on Ebrake cable and swaybar endlinks at ride height"

Granted, the OP didn't mention the width of his wheels so I am assuming he went with 10" wide wheels. The 17x9.5 wheels do NOT have the same notation.

BUT BMR's description of the TCA028 arms say for use on lowered cars only. So, based on that info, the OP is not lowered, he is limited to the TCA029 adjustable arms which are not quite twice as much. That is one of the reasons I didn't jump on the 17s for sale a couple days ago - I didn't want to buy new LCAs and new tires...

I also noted there is a misprint in Weld's guide (arem vs arms) as I copied and pasted from it.

Also, some people have said the LCAs only hit from a hard launch and no other time. I've no experience with the 17" welds as I'll get a set of 18s so I don't have to buy new tires.

Thanks. Do they stick out much in the rear? Kinda hard to tell from that angle... 'Still wondering what offset to get, since 18x11 isn't in Weld's fitment guide.
